Any PMs I consider/ed of great importance I send/used to send to my email for safekeeping, other than that I delete within days, no point in keeping the rest as what use are they really once read and replied to?
I think if it speeds up the forum which is the main use for members not the PM system, then go for it, and reduce the limit James. You have my blessing to do so

..I think 1000 is a lot more than most forums give you so 500 would be fine...I know one that just gives you 50....
..however many you have, it can be a bit of a pain to delete some...you just have to be a bit ruthless I guess...and you can save them elsewhere anyway...
