This is very prominent in real life. My cousin is autistic and cannot speak, only make noises, and my uncle has had people shout at him and call him a bad parent before.

There is a massive problem with mental disability as far as people thinking that if they can't see it it doesn't exist. I've experienced it myself with depression where people think you can just "pull yourself together".............always people who have never experienced it and aren't able to put themselves in someone else's shoes.
