Liverpool are turning their attentions to the Juventus striker Fernando Llorente and Sevilla’s Carlos Bacca after refusing to meet the £32.5 million release fee to sign Christian Benteke from Aston Villa.

Llorente is expected to be made available by the Italian champions, who are reshaping their attack this summer and signing Atlético Madrid’s Mario Mandzukic, while Sevilla have insisted, so far, that Bacca is not for sale.

There is understood to be a €30 million (£21.4 million) release clause in Bacca’s contract, which Sevilla say has to be met, while Juventus may try to hold out for as much as €20 million (£14.3 million) for Llorente but will probably let him go for less.

Liverpool are determined to add to their strike-force and had targeted Benteke, having signed Danny Ings, for a fee to be set by a tribunal but which could be £5 million to £7 million, although they will not bid anywhere near the Belgian international’s buy‑out clause. As that interest has started to cool, possibly to see whether Villa lower their asking price, Liverpool are examining the possibility of signing either Llorente or Bacca.

Llorente, the Spanish international, is 30 while Bacca – a prolific goalscorer in La Liga, who is representing Colombia in the Copa América, where he was sent off with Neymar in the fiery group game against Brazil – is 28.

Although their age does not fit in with the preferred policy of Liverpool’s owners, the Fenway Sports Group, who want to sign younger players, Brendan Rodgers has argued for more experienced quality to strengthen his squad having already brought in 29‑year-old James Milner.

It has been a long time coming but something to get excited about at last. Bacca would be a quality signing, exactly the kind of striker we need. Not convinced Llorente would be the best option at this point though.

Liverpool have held talks with forwards Roberto Firmino, Carlos Bacca and Salomon Rondon, according to Sky sources.

The club have widened their search for a new striker to three South American targets after deeming Christian Benteke's £32.5million asking price too expensive.

Brazilian media outlet Globoesporte has reported that an £18m deal and a five-year contract has been agreed for Firmino but Sky Sports News HQ understands this is not yet the case.

Hoffenheim player Firmino is currently on Copa America duty with Brazil and is seen as an ideal replacement for Raheem Sterling – should he leave the club – with his ability to play across the front three.

Bacca is another player on Liverpool’s radar due to his prolific form for Sevilla and Colombia.

It is believed he would command a fee in the region of £20m. He scored 28 goals last season, including two goals in the Europa League final.

Sky Sports' Spanish football expert Guillem Balague recently said that Bacca wants to leave Sevilla and is open to a move to the Premier League.

“Carlos Bacca at the end of the season told Sevilla he would like a way out,” Balague told Sky Sports News HQ.

“Sevilla would like him to stay, but he does know there is interest from the Premier League and Italy.

"He likes the idea of coming to the Premier League, of course he has been abroad for a few years and would be happy to continue that progression abroad."

Liverpool are also pursuing Rondon, who plays for Zenit St Petersburg and represents Venezuela at international level.

Rondon, who would cost £15m, scored 20 times last season as Zenit won the Russian title.

Liverpool have also been linked in the media with Monaco centre-back Aymen Abdennour but Sky Sports News HQ has been told they do not intend to make a move for the player.

Sky Sports News HQ also understands there is currently no interest in Inter Milan's attacking midfielder Mateo Kovacic and as of yet there has not been a second bid made for Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne.

Liverpool Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim, subject to a medical which will take place immediately following the player's participation in Copa America 2015 for Brazil.

The 23-year-old has agreed a long-term contract with the club.

Firmino will arrive at Anfield following four-and-a-half seasons in the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim.

The forward made 151 appearances in league and cup for the German club, netting 47 goals, after joining them from Figueirense in December 2010.

To date, Firmino has nine caps and four goals for Brazil - including what proved to be the winner in his country's 2-1 victory over Venezuela in the Copa America on Sunday.
