The reason a lot of people go into the army is to learn a trade or gain credits for university.

I don't think there would be anything along those lines in the army, I did 6 1/2 years in the RAF and really cannot imagine a trade that had any connection to being a scientist.

Yes he is a scientist. Why does being in the army preclude someone from then going on to study science? Are you one of those who think the military is made up of unintelligent people? Those men and women in the military that you seem to be looking down your nose at are keeping your arse safe.
