I donīt think there are many, if any "wild" chickens, cows or pigs in Finland. Most of them are breaded as cattle (for meat) and then some of them for the produce of milk, eggs and maybe even wool sometimes. Farm animals in terms of numbers: (Statistics made in December 1.5.2015) Cows: Cowīs (breaded for meat) total number in Finland in: 914 830 Milch (milk) cowīs total number: 285 150 Calverīs: 58 700 Pigīs: (Statistics made in December 1.12.2014) Total number of pigs: 1.22 million pigs (+3% from last year) Sows: 117 800 (-3%) Chickenīs: (2013 or 2014) Total number of chickens: 2.9 - 3.2 million chickens Then there are other winged cattle, but you only mentioned chickens. Sheepīs: Total number of sheep's in 2014: 135 500 Horses: (in 2014) Total number of horses: 74 600 ------------ Reindeer's: Total allowed number of reindeer's (legislated in 2010): 203 700 Last edited by Calderyon; 02-11-2015 at 12:53 PM. |

^ Yeah. I think itīs considered as a delicacy. Most common food made from it is Reindeer roast which is served with mash potatoes and lingonberry sauce.
In fact itīs even used in one particular pizza that apparently won a "Best Pizza in the World award" at some point. Last edited by Calderyon; 02-11-2015 at 01:37 PM. |
