Ok, I have some new information which leads me to change my original statement.

You see, the last time my other half and I discussed this subject was quite a few years ago. Now, this thread (and copious amounts of harrassment from G) prompted me to have that discussion again with him and to bring up his previous point of view. It turns out that he is now of the opinion that if everyone is consenting and it's all discussed, that it could work. He says that you have to make the decision then "not let it destroy you" after it's done.

After the last discussion we had about this, I was of the opinion that he would turn into "David" in the film and basically become this jealous ball of rage, but now he says that he's more secure and cuz he's older he would be able to handle it.

So, to sum up, I'm guna sh*g Robert Redford for a mil. If they chuck in Woody Harrelson, I'll do it for half a mil.. and If Wentworth Miller is even in the same room then it's free.

I said before- some people can handle it, and some people can't. Depends on your personality and how secure you feel. Some people tho may think they can handle it, but in reality they can't. I mentioned the polygamy thing before for example. Some people can have an open relationship and be quite happy with that. Some people have an open relationship, and it all goes tits up because one, or both of them, get jealous. You don't know how you'd feel until it actually happens. What works for some people, doesn't for others. U get me?

I do get you, because at one point in our original discussion my man said he could handle it, but when I pressed him on the issue with hypothetical scenarios, he admitted that maybe he couldn't. Which just goes to show that we don't really know how we will feel until the deed is done, by which time it's too late to "undo" it.

This was where my fear came from. I would have been afraid to go ahead just in case things changed after the fact. My relationship means more to me than money, and I wouldn't like to gamble my marriage on a sum of money. However, if I could be assured that he wasn't going to fall apart after it was done, then obviously it would change my stance and I would consider it.

I might let him do it. Because I would be able to know 100% whether I could or couldn't handle it.

But, I don't know that I would be prepared to let him let me do it (if that makes sense) because I couldn't be sure that he really was ok with it and that his judgement wasn't being clouded by the money.

I don't know because I can't imagine what impact that money would have or have ever been in a proper relationship! If I was older and married and happy I don't say I couldas I have pretty high love expectations,hopless romantic and all that but it really would depend on if I needed money or who it was etc.

I have to agree with this. Robert Redford is a real hottie, and plays a nice guy in the movie (which I do agree is trash by the way). Imagine if it was a real minger, who was a complete t**t who had offered the money - that would have been a much more interesting movie altogether. And would the husband have been so jealous if it had been a really horrible chap she had slept with? Or would he have got over it quicker?

Of course it would. If the Robert Redford character was an ugly pig, then this would have put a totally different slant on things. The jealousy from the husband might never happen. The wife could never possibly have feelings for him. It would not have raised so many issues.
