Bruhh, that's 1/2 more worthy people than BB.

I only like Isabelle in this current series, which says it all. On LI, I like Camilla, Montana, Alex, Kem, Chris, Gabby and Marcel. So, 1 vs 7.

If you miss the heyday of BB where everyone was talking about it (BB1 - 3 presumably, I was hardly born then) then yeah Love Island it is. It's actually suprising af to hear so many conversations about a BB style reality show these days in the Netflix era.

Love Island Pros:
- The narrator's better and actually really funny, if Marcus ever tried to be funny it would be ****.
- Better edited
- SOME interesting characters like the aspiring war correspondant.
- Funnier show (more banter) (this series anyways)
- Less drama/fights it gets tiresome on BB
- There all quite similar which actually makes it quite interesting.
- Not that hetero based, the guys in there are metrosexual af who shower together and are probably closeted.
- Both have their fair share of Z-listers but at least LI admits it, and with 3 EOTB stars, BB have pushed it this year.

BB Pros:
- Wide/diverse range of people and ages
- More eccentric characters
- Bigger fights/drama
- People win for their personalities
- Can sometimes be funny

LI Cons
- Shallow
- Can be bad role models (as can BB)
- More focused on one subject (love)
- Can't really think of anything else

BB Cons
- Tackier (by far)
- Less appealing/addictive
- Tiresome
- Edited too much
- Confusing new twist
- Recruits
- Doesn't really listen to fans.

Looks like Love Island might win this one. I think CBB would still beat Love Island though.

I'd never watch Love Island. Nope.

But I'm respecting the fact the producers seem to have put a lot of effort into the series.

I don't mind the hetro cast because I know how complicated and confusing it would make the format if they did add some gays. Tbh I barely notice the guys are so camp and when I do I'm watxhing in a "oh so this is the world of heterosexual" sort of way.

BB18 is better always.

What is the appeal of Love Island??? What's so special about half-naked young-uns stuck on an ugly island having sex with each other??? I don't understand.

Yes it is.

I'd rather watch that than a show that has been ruined by channel 5

I also find that younger viewers around teenagers to people in their 20s and 30s do recognise the celebrities on it now because the celebs are spread out for all generations. They early C5 days were the last time it was good

2012 was the last good year of BB let's be real

I see two versions of BB - C4 and C5

C4 pros:
Social Experiment
More hype around it
Generally more diverse cast

C5 pros:
Modern
Editing is more lively
Try to keep it fresh and new each series

C4 cons:
Could be dull sometimes
Production didn’t give a sh*t in the decline-era
The concept was the same in every single series

C5 cons:
Tacky in BB12-13
Isn’t usually as diverse
Tasks aren’t really that great

They are both 2 very different shows. I’ve grown up watching the C5 version; probably why I controversially find it better than C4. Both channels have had their good and bad series, it just depends what you like more.

Oh yes, that's why Channel 4 made BB5 an 'evil' series and brought in viewers after they gave the format a shakeup...
Half your C4 cons don't make sense other than if you've only watched like bb4 or something...

They haven't "brought a new generation of viewers" at all. Even their most successful series are way down on what channel 4 used to get.

Even channel 5's best series were only due to luck because of excellent casts, the actual production of the show has been tacky and awful since 2011. I prefer BB but they need to take a few leaves out of LI's book if they want the ratings up again.

This, production is awful and tacky and has been ever since C5 got hold of it.

Big brother got a both a young and older audience when it was on c4 if anything c5 have alienated a big chunk of its viewers in an attempt to be more like eotb and geordie shore

No it wasn't, it was aimed at everybody, young and old. It's so ironic you say this because nowadays the majority of BB fans of the C5 version are middle aged where as when it was on C4 everyone watched....

Yeah wasn't there a BBC article which said that 60% of BB viewers were over 50 or something

it doesn't happen that often though how can you judge the show when you've not watched it?

BB18 had a good first few weeks but it's getting flat now, so repetitive and desperate for drama. LI has been a slow burner but it's definitely taken over now, I even watched last nights episode live on TV which is something I never do with BB other than the launch.

I agree with Armand, I thought I wouldn't like LI with it containing so many lads and plastic girls etc. But there is so much more to it, you just have to give it a chance

Most of the BB housemates are like that nowadays Yes, BB used to be amazing. In the new era they've only produced two good series (BB13 and 17) which still had a few **** housemates and let's not forget how much they ruined the last few weeks of BB17. On the other hand, CBB is great

I was thinking earlier how it's peculiar that the same criticism that's always been levelled at Big Brother (that it's lowbrow television, full of desperate fame-hungry people who get into fake romances and have sex) and refuted by the hardcore fans whom suggest people actually give it a shot, is now being levelled by Big Brother fans at Love Island

Neither are true. And if detractors of both shows gave them both a decent chance, they'd see that.

The thing about LI is that ITV actually put effort into it and understand who their target audience is and what they want.

C5 put no effort into BB, give it no promo and they don't have a clue what their viewers actually want. No matter how many times people tell them what they need to do to improve they ignore it and try to copy whatever other reality show is popular at the time.
