It's really sad Jamie, your examples just reinforce there is more to be done to hopefully even just educate people this still goes on.

You and I are only 2 people, between us we have presented 5 examples of the devastation to lives as to just someone's sexual preferences.
I'm sure if we know 5, this is something that still has has a great number of people fearful of others thinking and reaction, of just revealing their sexuality.
Which is shocking in this day and age.

Which is why,it's heartening to hear no matter who it is,when it's learned of anyone saying they are gay or lesbian, to read of strong support within their family.
Such as Andrew's and his Sister.

I will be honest here I don't believe a word Andrew says let alone his family, so I take it all with a pinch of salt, attention seeking at it's worst.

Yes gay people have their difficulties

Old people have their difficulties

Disabled people have their difficulties

Mentally ill people have their difficulties

Cancer sufferers have more than their fair share of difficulties

But who are the ones making most noise about theirs?

Far better than throwing her toys out of the pram for any perceived slight

The lady is quite right.

Amanda has lead anything but a quiet life

I think she would not want a label like this as labels are mostly bollocks tbh

I don't really find this tweet too shocking. Brother in sticking up for sister shocker? Really?

I find the language quite odd if I am honest. 'I identify as a lesbian' rather than just..'I am a lesbian'. What is it with youngsters today and 'identifying as' rather than...being.

Because it means they can change their minds easier at a later date? That would be my thoughts. Or maybe that's the less "shocking" notification for relatives?

They could change their minds at a later date anyway though surely.

I am a lesbian. Oh, I have discovered there actually are men I fancy. So I am and always was really bi. Or so on.

Identifying as seems so...wooly

Not really odd.

If someone is bisexual, I have come across particularly when at Uni.
A few would say they were bi but identify themselves as being Gay,as their attraction to men was stronger than to females.

Yeah this, some people see sexuality as more of a scale, the kinsey scale I think it's called? Maybe they use 'identify' because they don't actually consider to be definitively one or the other, just strongly towards one, and using gay/lesbian is just easier, for them it's a label demanded by society rather than something that actually represents who they are.

I can't speak for anyone else, but if I said 'I identify as bisexual/curious' it'd be because in reality it's actually a lot more complex than that and also ~I don't really like labels~, so it's just easier to navigate most people to the easiest to understand term rather than sit there and try and explain the complexities of something no one other than me cares about, or get into a debate about the usefulness of categorising sexual preferences. Maybe it's similar?

But its still a label

Just you are saying you 'identify' as a label, rather than are

'Identifying as' to me means you are saying you are something you are not. Like..I don't identify as human, I am human. I could identify as a cat, as I am not a cat. If that makes sense.
