Default Hungary’s Viktor Orbán will hold 2022 Referendum on anti-LGBT law

He wants to Stop the EU nations picking on him.

[Hungary to hold referendum on LGBT issues by early 2022]

So now Vote on the Gays
on a Referendum

This was debated last night
on BBC2HD Newsight

https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...-anti-lbgt-law

https://edition.cnn.com/2021/07/21/e...ntl/index.html

[Orban appeared ready to raise the stakes.
"The future of our children is at stake,
so we cannot cede ground in this issue,"
he said in a Facebook video.
"In the past weeks, Brussels has clearly
attacked Hungary over its child protection law.
Hungarian laws do not permit
sexual propaganda in kindergartens,
schools, on television and in advertisements."]

it doesn't matter if there is a ref or not. The country is violating the EU rules of membership and should be thrown out

I'm sorry but even if the majority vote for the anti option, the LGBT community is still gonna exist in the country, I mean what's he gonna do kill them?

Imo it's a complete waste of a referendum that could be done on something more important.

“LGBTQ activists visit kindergartens and schools and conduct sexual education classes. They want to do this here in Hungary as well,” said Orbán in a Facebook video statement placed on Wednesday.
To be fair, the creepy drag queens holding "story time" to kindergarteners and that weird Queer Kid Stuff thing from a few years ago on YouTube doesn't exactly paint the best picture.

Things like that are gross but obviously the minority, and don't excuse banning all LGBT from educational materials.

…Was that the public library who hired the guy in the monkey costume…?…I don’t know if it’s that same one but that wasn’t a drag queen, they were actors or something and it was some kind of WWF theme and the costume was very child inappropriate but it wasn’t drag if that is the one…

…the drag queen story time/story hours have been going and growing for quite a few years now, I think….they’re very successful so far as I know…

…this is very discriminatory at best and very damaging at worst and such a regression…those poor LGBT children who feel this referendum is aimed at them or a friend etc and feeling fear for being who they are….

I would love for Nina West to read books to my child. She does stuff for Nickelodeon, Disney and released a children's music album. That's the kind of stuff she does and it's brilliant. You wouldn't think of sending Bianca Del Rio in schools to read to children (though I would 100% be here for it)

So can we not generalize Drag Queens being bollocks-showing people in front of children. That's not a cute look.

Well its fantastic that you would love that captain Remy, but not everyone feels the same as you, and everyone who has a child at a school that promotes drag to infants should have an equal say and an equal decision on what each individual child is forced to watch or listen to..bollocks taped away or not..

It's a choice for parents to make, not for schools.

The problem here is that why would any parent want their children to not become open-minded individuals living in an inclusive and diverse world.

School is the perfect place for it because that's where you're supposed to meet people from different walks of life, skin color, sexual orientations etc
This suicide rate for LGBT+ people is higher than for their straight counterparts and that's telling a lot. They're more at risk of having depressive moods also.
Drag isn't the issue here, but not talking about LGBT+ people, relationships, how to handle what these kids are and feel is the issue.

We need to show these young people that it's OK to be who they are, what they feel and that anything is possible to them through discussions, TV shows, books etc. It also helps with the people bullying them because had they knew about this, they possibly would not have bullied these young people for who they are.

See, in the local shelter for LGBT+ people I work at every Thursday, I have hosted some workshops between queer people and their past high school bullies. Most of these homophobic bullies were told by their parents AT HOME that God hates gay people, that what their classmates are is wrong or didn't talk about them at all. These previous bullies now completely regret their lack of awareness on the topic and their horrible actions towards their victims at school. It was heartbreaking because it tells a lot about visibility and education. (and turns out, a lot of these people are now gay like a lot of homophobics are)

I'm glad if you are open to talking to your kids about LGBT+ people and not make them feel like it's wrong. But it's not the case for everybody and that calls for higher representation and visibility to not see kids thrown out of their homes, trying to kill themselves, ending up homeless or have mental issues growing up. Or even see full grown-adults frustrasted that they can't live their true selves due to their upbringing.

And to be fair, Vikor Orban can try to ban LGBT+ visibility from younger people in fear that they "become gay", but in reality if your kid wants to suck dick or lick pussy then it's not a nice Drag Queen that will read a book every one in a while that will stop them.

Funny thing is (or tragic) is that nobody ever said promoting straight relationships to younger people is a problem. So what goes for one should go for the other.

…just to add to what you’ve said, Remy….it isn’t just about the children themselves and their sexuality…it’s also important to discuss ‘rainbow families’ with children because they might be part of one themselves in having ‘two dads’ or ‘two mums’ etc and it’s important that they feel an equal part of society in their family and not that they’re in some way ‘wrong’ ….

The facts are, Hungary does not teach sex education becaus it doesnt want to sexualise their children to early..the LGBTQ thing is just an extension of that.

Well it was a dumb idea in the first place and that "extension" is now specifically tailored towards LGBTQ people. Let's not act any different because we all know Orban's views. Again, it targets specifically what they call "homosexual propaganda" in the name of "not sexualising children" yet he has no issue promoting "straight" relationships. It should be the same treatment for all.
It tells a lot that institutions, people of power, celebrities, protesters, NGOs are firmly against it. It's not "just an extension" or how they're justifying this.
