A bit of a late reply, but I feel your pain on this one as well.

And a more entitled, boundary-invasive side. Things seem to be getting marginally better but so-many people out there don’t understand the concept of boundaries or don’t really apprehend them cue that someone’s drawing the line with them and doesn’t want to get into anything personal with them (because they don’t like, trust or know them well-enough). No-one owes a (relative or total) stranger anything beyond stock cordiality but nowadays you get people you only know very vaguely trying to get all up in your business and making it awkward when you insert your boundaries. They’re the types of people who’ll go up to someone reading quietly with a face-mask on and think it’s a good idea to have a conversation with them. But all this is more of a deeper societal peeve than an ordinary public one per se.

Extraverts using the library as a hub to talk loudly about party-plans for the weekend (not that I mind a bit of vibrant chit-chat) is surely another pet-peeve. People use libraries to get away from all that hubbub and noise.

I'll never understand people who take long calls about Friday-night plans (unless there's Prosecco going for me) in a hub designed for research and reading. Please take it to the pub.

It’s gotten to the stage where TikTok dances are a desperately-banging topic of conversation on Thursday afternoons. Do people even know what a library is anymore or did they forget during Covid?

Jason Derulo recently revealed that he makes 'far more' than $75,000 per TikTok post, where he currently has 33 million followers. Although he wouldn't put an actual number on how much he makes, saying it's 'tacky' to discuss such things, he confirmed to Complex it was far more than the proposed number. People sniffing/nose-sniffling constantly. Whether people feel that so strongly that they have a misophonic response to it or not it’s just not great having to listen to and see people vigorously rubbing snot into their nostrils and swallowing it like Malibu every five seconds. All it takes is a Kleenex.
I don’t know if I already mentioned that but yeah. Definitely a pet peeve. A bit of basic nasal hygiene doesn’t go amiss. Some people seem to do it as a sort of tic/allergy and others owe it to the fact that they’ve basically ruined their noses with cocaine but whatever the reason is I expect adults to know when to blow their noses. Perpetual sniffle-sniffle-sniffle nonsense is just too annoying, ugly and irritating for too many people for it to not be de-normalised to some extent. People need to learn to leave their damn noses alone.

Soooo many
Folk walking and talking ( loudly ) to someone on their mobile … Those imbeciles who press the pelican crossing button then just stroll on by … People who eat their food out of plastic containers ( near you ) and spend 5 minutes loudly scraping the plastic of the insides … I have to stop myself leaning across to take the fork out of their hand ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Or letting them get past the gate first if you think they need a bit more space. Some people won’t even look you in the eye.

Talking of ignorant people, the elderly can sometimes be the worst. I was in a supermarket once when I was pregnant with my Josh and I got halfway down an aisle and this old man screamed at me...."get out of my way".

So true about the elderly ! My lovely wife was walking to the local PO when she noticed an old bloke had dropped something crossing the road .. she dashed into the road to pick it up .. it was 5 x £20 notes .. £100 !! She ran on and handed it to him and he just snatched it off her and scowled !! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

People who always use brand names which may be unfamiliar to some people when referring to medication. Why say Zoloft, Anafranil and Ultram when you can just say sertraline, clomipramine and tramadol and make it easy for people to know which drug you’re talking about, rather than every silly brand-name under the sun? Where the hell did Novolog and Bayer come from? Why not just use its official generic name?
