Yeah ''Yank'' is just another term for an american...however i'd prefer to call them simply 'americans' cos yank is too rude i feel.

If an american called us ''Limeys'' wouldnt we prefer to be called 'British'' (or English/Welsh/Scottish/Irish whatever)?

I would.
Well in modern day use "Limey" is a word to describe the English, not the British as a whole.

Limes were used over lemons due to limes being more readily available from Britain's own Caribbean colonies. The term is thought to have originated in the Caribbean in the 1880s. A false etymology is that it is a derivative of "Corr-blimey" ("God blind me!").

You could find alot to prove that limey describes the British online, same as i could find alot to prove my point online, for example according to the definition of limey by the free online dictionary, it's used to describe an English person and a British sailor.

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/limey

According to anyone with a bit of sense it is used to describe the English, in modern day use when do you ever hear the Scots or Welsh called limeys? Never, it's always the English.

went onto your website and found the following:

limey
Noun
US, Canad & Austral slang
1. a British person
2. a British sailor or ship [from lime-juicer, because British sailors drank lime juice as a protection against scurvy]

I can see what you mean. But Limeys is a slang for British people as a whole, not just English people.

I think it's funny when Americans refer to a 'British accent'. Within Britain, we have Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, England etc... Pretty different accents!

Well there's also more than one American accent...ofcourse we have states and not countries but we have New England, New York, Boston, Northern (donnchaknow), Southern, and everything in between.

But there is such a thing as a Standard American and a Standard British accent. You know, it's the kind actors have to learn so they dont all sound like they are from a million different places when they're supposed to be living in the same town.

True. I admit, US accents are harder for me to differentiate between because am I not from the US. I know there are many accents. I can sort of tell between some of them.

I presume it is the same for people in the US trying to determine between our accents.

I’ve heard a lot of Americans confusing certain London accents with Australian, for example. I found that quite bizarre! Though admittedly, I often mistake Canadian accents for US ones, I'm sure those accents will sound very different to you!

I've watched both the crappy US version and the brilliant UK version. The US celebwanna be types on the show are pathetic compared to the UK kids.

I think the show, in any country, draws a certain type of person, but overall, I find the UK version of the show more entertaining than the boring US version. All they do on the US version is bitch and backstab each other all day.

Anyone who thinks Barack Obama (Oo let's throw in his scary middle name!) will lose after double the turn out of McCain rallies nearly everywhere in America is clearly out of touch. Please, do not listen to him and do not judge us based on his opinions.

And saying "yanks are planks" is just as ignorant as the original poster himself. Cheers!

Ok well Yanks to me are the overly patriotic flag waving "Americans", the conservative type, the 'Friend_Of_Syd' type...

To my knowledge, he isn't exactly a small minority in "America" is he? So i'll judge as i see fit to.
Yes, he or she is. In the US, they're a dying breed.

My opinion of America

I love the country (Especially Universal Studios and Disney World). I Dislike the current president and the way he runs the government.

Obama for 'Prez.

By definition Gay's are abnormal or are you saying the reverse is true?

Then so would blacks, and anyone who isn't a Caucasian male or female.

Bush sucks, and you can't leave out the Labour government, Bliar. Those two should get married, and moved to an island, far, far away.
