Yeh exactly most of its talk Ive never really seen any proper evidence like...The England flag was paraded round by the National Front (buncha racists from around the 80s) so I guess it still has negative connotations in some peoples eyes. It shouldnt these days but yer know I guess if you were an asian shopkeeper who had his shop vandalised and grafittied with P*ki out etc, and the people who did it went round with the england flag you might not forget so quick

When are you guys gonna learn, not to bring bring up anything like that on Tibb! Its the classic example of aweep everything under the rug! Trust me, dont bother, you will not accomplish anything. Just like someone said previously, it only feels like repeatedly banging your head on the brick wall.

yeah but silence can be seen as acceptance by racists. It doesn't take much to post what you think and if someone is talking rubbish ( whether via ignorance or real hate) it deserves a comment.

Tom, "black coffee" is an example of political correctness gone mad??
It would be if it ever really happened. Why is that factoid even floating around in your head? The problem is a lie like that on the part of the daily mail wouldn't be hard to see through but instead you choose to store it your memory.

Oh I agree with you! But I have just realised from posting here, that nothing you say, can make much of a difference in my opinion. Because the same question, always finish with the same answers, or plain disdain for even bringing up the subject.
So I was just telling the other posters whove been down that road before.

"black jelly babies" ... sweet *****ing jesus yes that is JUST like Tom's "black coffee" example, in that it was made up by the daily mail too. You guys know that all these "political correctness" stories are just fake internet stories right? They get started on the internet and make it to the papers via lazy journalist. Question is why do you guys bite instead of seeing them as rubbish? What is it that makes you want to believe them?

Nah c'mon ,it does make a difference...even if you think it doesn't some of it sinks in... even if their pride doesn't let them admit it. At least they think twice next time.

those pc gone mad stories go all over the world and get tweaked by journalist locally to fit each country.
Some see through it... some make a mental note of it and bring it up in threads about racism. Question is why are lots of the examples of pc over reactions that some people carry around in their head exclusively about race?

At least you thought about the subject Ninastar. Means you care. Much better than people who cant be bothered. YOur opinion, means you will have some input from different people. So you can get a good balanced opinion.
Maybe youre right Ange7, you can even make one person think twimce. That's always a good thing.

you a daily mail fan?
In the thread I later went on to say "those pc gone mad stories go all over the world and get tweaked by journalist locally to fit each country." Either way the stories are fictitious lies, whether they are made up from viral net stories or made up by mail staff. They get printed in papers for the same reason they are so viral on the net... ie people are interested in any stories that seem to say "all the world is retarded...except for me". It makes theme feel better.

I know your a big fan of the Daily Mail, I mean all your facts and examples of PC gone mad seem to come from there. The question remains ..... why are you so eager to swallow clearly made up stories and use those "facts" as examples in a thread about race? And why do most of your examples of "pc gone mad" behaviour specifically pertain to race?

I am not trying to cause a fight or anything but does anyone agree with me?
You just described racism. Haha.

I don't think anyone (or I'd hope they aren't) is trying to say racism shouldn't be taken seriously. It's more a question of how far can political correctness go before we're going backwards, and not forwards? In my experience; which as a young white man is going to be entirely different to the experiences of people of different races and genders; racism and racist are terms that are thrown around far too easily. White people are now, I think, easily scared into not speaking to people of other races, not because they're racist, but because they don't want to be accused of being racist; and to the neutral eye it looks as if they are being racist. The number of friends I have who are of an ethnic minority is less than five, because I live in an area where there are very few people of different ethnicities/races, and I feel as though this is a poor reflection on me, even though that's not my fault. Surely racism is not as bad as it was a few decades ago, at least here in the United Kingdom? I don't know, I've only been around for seventeen years :P.

I totally agree with Shaun I have no time for ignorant people! I'm not just saying it because I'm Indian, I've always had this view! And yes calling a person a **** is racist as the term is generally aimed at all Asians when being racially abused(verbally) ignorant people fail to realise that the word **** is derived from the word pakistani and not all asians are from pakistan! There's just no need for racism people should just live and let live!

I just googled the "black jelly baby" story after reading it here.
Two things;
1) Daily Mail was the predominant report.
2) They didn't ban the black jelly baby. Read the story.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...000-trial.html

Also, reading the article, the mail seems to push the fact that the trial was a "joke" and portrays the perpetrators as victims, saying the trial ruined his marriage.

I don't know, I've only been around for seventeen years :P.
yeh I completly agree.!!
