I don't think it's just that with Biden, he specifically clashed with Obama over what to do in Afghanistan.

Obama wanted to be even more involved in Afghanistan, pile on a much larger occupying force and properly eliminate groups that would be a threat on withdrawal, and properly put systems in place that would remain robust when they did finally leave Afghanistan.

Biden wanted minimal involvement and a full withdrawal ASAP.

In fact Biden is one of the main reasons Obama didn't get his way with increased presence.

So I don't think his personal position on Afghanistan is just trying to appeal to the right... his previous politics suggest that it's something he's been in support of for over a decade.

Which on the other hand also puts to bed the "it's because he's old and senile and making terrible errors" part of the argument - he held the same overall position when he was Veep, a spring chicken in his mid 60's.

Oh wow, the whole thing really is Biden's fault - for stopping Obama from keeping the situation reaching that point, for not vetoing Trump's stupid plan, and then to carry it out in the stupidest way possible...

I mean the WHOLE thing still goes back much further, to the late 70's and the Russian occupation at least, but tbh let's face it more or less forever. The west has been ****ing around in the Middle East since the Crusades .

[edit] I feel like this is wide open for a "Biden was probably around back then" joke ... so I'm just gonna make it myself.

Biden was probably around back then .

To be fair, the Crusades helped rescue Spain from islamic rule ... so it could be argued they didn't go far enough

biden is the president, he has to take responsibility, even though he tried to blame anyone else he could. I think that for me is the worst trait. How can anyone trust him again after he pointed the finger at everyone but himself

In years gone by, the americans wouldnt have given the taliban the time of day, now they are actively sucking up to them

[Afghanistan and India have suspected that ISIL-K is a breakaway
faction of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan]

So what the President Biden
called ISIS-K new threat in Kabul Airport Zone
started from Pakistan.

The Foreign Office last night issued new guidance telling anyone near the airport to "move away to a safe location and await further advice".

James Heappey earlier told the BBC: "There is now very, very credible reporting of an imminent attack."

He later told us: "The credibility of the reporting has now reached the stage where we believe that there is a very imminent, highly lethal attack possible within Kabul."

Asked by Sky News whether an attack could occur in the coming few hours, Mr Heappey replied: "Yes."

Stressing the "severe" nature of the threat, he told the BBC that it had created an "extraordinarily challenging situation, both on the ground and as a set of decisions to be taken in Whitehall".

today is the last day of evacuations

because we cannot pull everyone out before August 31st, so everyone left behind needs to take care of themselves to get out of afghanistan somehow
