smacks of a massive cover up I am afraid, we have not moved on at all from the Jimmy Saville days people in powerful positions will get away with stuff that you and I would not, not a word is being said about the boy in question or who arranged a legal team for him? ....Huw also allegedly broke lock down rules for which the PM got a fine, will he get one? it all stinks to high heaven I am afraid, but we can't discuss it any more due to Huws depression.

Apparently, it is alleged contact began when the individual was 17 but I would imagine there is no crime committed because there was no exchange of pictures until after he turned 18 maybe? Just speculating. If any pics were exchanged before then, than a crime was definitely committed.

There is very little faith in the MET Police sadly, they can't even investigate their own properly.

Obviously it's not nice that he has mental health issues, but that never has or ever will negate guilt, it just changes the nature of subsequent treatment

this 17 year old thing is very difficult to prove. If it was an 18+ site (which dating apps are) There is a reasonable expectation that the people on it are at least 18 years old

They would also need actual photos taken when he was 17 and evidence of it on Huw's phone or equivalent. The police obviously didn't check that, they didn't have the time, but my guess is that it would be next to impossible to gather sufficient evidence to secure a conviction, which is how police judge it at the end of the day before going down a criminal path

yes its nauseating, all I am hearing is 'complex personal life' and hugely tragic yadda yadda yadda, this wasn't a one off abberation, he has been at it for years and subjecting his colleagues to inappropriate advances, people have been dismissed for much less..... he wont be back on the news but they are sending him off with a soft landing, all the nonces in the land must be cheering ...just about legal seems to be the way to go, then claim mental health issues

Speaking to ITV's Good Morning Britain, Sopel - who was until recently the BBC's North America editor, said he had been in touch with Edwards before he was hospitalised.

"He was very angry, I think felt very let down by what happened in the Sun, furious with their coverage, not overly impressed with the BBC's coverage either."

Sopel also said coverage of the allegations "got ugly", adding: "I think it became a feeding frenzy. I think it was a competition to see who could go further the fastest."
