Yeah these viruses (this and Ebola) have been around for decades and (touch wood) they’re well studied and we know how to deal with them. They are horrific viruses (haemorrhagic fevers) with very high death rates but they don’t spread easily, and the reason there have never been any major outbreaks outside of Africa is probably that it’s very hard for them to spread with modern sanitation. They spread via bodily fluids and contact with infected corpses, you can catch it from someone sitting next to you on the train, and also, I believe it’s only infectious whilst symptomatic so… someone with one of these viruses isn’t going to be sat on a train in the first place - they’re going to be in ICU. Though I did read a while back that asymptomatic Ebola DOES exist… it’s just unlikely to be infectious so you’d never know you had it ![]() Anyway yeah, tl;dr these severe viruses are scary for different reasons (the actual symptoms) whereas Covid is usuallly a mild illness - the problem is and always has been how easily it spreads. |

for a virus to be successful, it has to be infectious almost immediately and it also needs to keep the carrier alive long enough to spread it along. So, by definition, a quick acting lethal virus won't spread very far

the vaccine rate drops as you include younger age groups. It's 90% on the over 50's which is the band that matters

More on that sad Death,
of that 15 year old girl in Portsmouth. [Healthy' schoolgirl kickboxer, 15, dies from Covid on day she was due to be vaccinated in extremely rare case – as her heartbroken mother urges children not to be 'blasé' about virus Jorja Halliday was rushed to the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth She was placed on a ventilator but her heart was under too much strain Schoolgirl died on September 28 - four days after receiving her PCR test results] [Paying tribute to her daughter, Jorja's mother, Tracey Halliday, 40, said that the GCSE student at The Portsmouth Academy was a 'loving girl' who 'always wanted to help others'. Ms Halliday said Jorja was struggling to eat on Sunday but by Monday she could not eat at all due to her throat hurting. She had initially contacted a doctor who prescribed antibiotics but when Jorja's condition worsened, she was seen by a doctor who said her heart rate was double what it should be and she was taken to hospital. She said: 'They realised how serious it was and I was still allowed to touch her, hold her hand, hug her and everything else. 'They did allow me that. I'm at the point where I can't comprehend that it's happened. 'I was with her the whole time. They tried to put her on a ventilator to give her body a chance to recover. Her heart rate didn't stabilise. Her heart couldn't take the strain.] https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ter_mailonline |

i think the girl was particularly unlucky and was hit by a rarer covid affect. We know that covid can seriously mess up your organs and circulatory system. That's why i get annoyed when people compare it to cold or flu.
Right at the beginning of the pandemic, the brother of a friend of mine who was perfectly health had 3 heart attacks from it. I can't remember that being associated with the flu |
