I could definitely see someone like the one who played Nancy in EastEnders do it and wouldn't surprise me with the announcement a day after she left the soap

The BBC has confirmed that new Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall is "exploring" new ways to write the series.

One suggestion is for Doctor Who to adopt a US-style writers' room, where Chibnall would head a group of scribes in hashing out storylines for each series together.

Under the current system used by Steven Moffat, the showrunner develops storylines and episode concepts that he either writes himself or hands off to others.

A BBC spokesperson told the Radio Times: "It's still very early days and no fixed model has been decided upon yet.

"Chris Chibnall as the new showrunner will write his own episodes and is currently exploring different ways of working with new and established writers on the show."

BBC officials are said to have already met with union officials to develop a workable plan to potentially enable a Doctor Who writers' room.

"If it's what the BBC wants and it's what the writers want it then it's fine by us," former Writers' Guild of Great Britain general secretary Bernie Corbett said.

There's still a way to go before such a change would come into effect on Doctor Who.

Steven Moffat is currently plotting series 10 to air in 2017 - marking his swansong as Doctor Who showrunner.

Moffat is responsible for introducing new companion Pearl Mackie, before handing over the franchise to Chris Chibnall.

Looks like he's going for a more serialised show then with less individual episodes and more of a story-arc like Broadchurch.

Not sure if it'll work or not. The thing about Doctor Who is you can watch each week and it's totally different.

Hopefully not, I miss when there was a completely different story each episode, why can't we just have slitheens trying to take over the world then something different next week.

But I'll hold out and won't judge till it airs as long as the story arc is good, I haven't seen broadchruch though so I don't know much about him.

I think having more writers having an input into the show will be beneficial.

Having one man who is in control of where the show goes overall and stuff really bogs it down and they can get really too far up their own arse. They need a few people who can step in and say "That's sh*t".

They'll probably keep the individual stories but add more of an arc beyond the usual use of keywords or recurring imagery.

Hopefully they can write an arc they can keep track of unlike Moffat.

I'm glad he's trying to strive for new ways of doing things, the show is going stale at the mo.

Peter Capaldi nominated for Lead Actor at the Emmy's.

BBC America is apparently now a co-producer though. Don't know if that's a good thing.

My understanding is that the 8th Doctor tv movie with Paul Maghan was meant to be a pilot for an American done Doctor Who series, but it did not do so well and none of the networks wanted it.

BBC America is part of the part of the BBC as a whole, Starz isn't Basically, I imagine it means that there will be a bigger budgets.

David Suchet joins Doctor Who

Quote:
avid Suchet will appear in the new series of Doctor Who, the BBC announced today. The Poirot star will play “the Landlord” in an episode of the BBC One show written by playwright Mike Bartlett (King Charles III, Doctor Foster).

The Bafta-winning actor is just the latest in a series of guest stars to have been announced for the 10th series of the sci-fi show, which is set to air in early 2017. The Royle Family’s Ralph Little is set to make an appearance, while Matt Lucas has also confirmed that he will be returning to the programme, reprising his character Nardole from the 2015 Christmas Special.

Also joining the show next year is British actress Pearl Mackie, as the Doctor's latest companion, Bill.

As yet, no details have been revealed about the character Suchet will play, though a newly-released image shows his character in a striped, plum-coloured suit, recalling both 12th Doctor Peter Capaldi’s purple velvet jacket, and 10th Doctor David Tennant’s pinstriped suits. It’s possible that Suchet’s character could be another iteration of the Time Lord – or he might just be a snazzy dresser.

The 10th series will be the last outing for long-serving Doctor Who writer Steven Moffat as showrunner. Moffat, who has helmed the show since 2008, will be handing over the reins to Broadchurch writer Chris Chibnall, who has previously worked as head writer for the BBC's Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood.

Saw this on DS the other day. Excellent casting.

Just hope they're wrong about it being connected to "The Lodger" and James Corden is not returning.
