Mellor got a knee injury one match into his loan spell and is facing the prospect of further surgery in the summer (he's already lost a year or so due to tendonitis in his knee). Pongolle is indeed a fine player who has shown great potential. I've actually seen him play in the flesh though, of course, rather than just from the comfort of my armchair. But strangely enough, I'm rarely consulted as to whether our players who are out on loan make the matchday squad or not. However, it's common knowledge to those who follow the game closely that teams other than those with the most depleted, threadbare of squads are loathe to play their loan signings unless it's an absolute necessity.

And we are talking about the same Pongolle & Le Tallec who Arsenal, manure and a host of other top European clubs tried to sign before Liverpool secured their signatures, aren't we? The same Pongolle who won the Golden Ball for the best player of the 2001 Under-17 World Championship? The same Pongolle who won the Golden Shoe as leading goalscorer (9) in that competition, including two hat tricks and a goal in the final, setting a new record for the competition in the process? And the same Le Tallec who won the Silver Ball at the same tournament? The same Pongolle & Le Tallec who scored 11 goals between them in the UEFA Under-16 Championship that same year?

"Sinama Pongolle, considered to be similar in style to Nicolas Anelka with blistering pace" (Soccernet).

"French playmaker of exceptional promise joined Sunderland in August 2005 on a year-long loan from Liverpool. Arrived at Anfield from Le Havre as part of a £6million double deal with striker Florent Sinama-Pongolle. Le Tallec's creative style of play has brought comparisons with the FA Premier League's Overseas Player of the Decade Eric Cantona." (PremierLeague.com).

I think you should ask your subs to start warming up.

Still as confident?

Looks like you will be relying on Boro, Chelsea and Charlton

I predicted the results of 16 matches – a margin of error isn’t unreasonable. You made just one prediction, and so far you’re 50% wrong on that one. Not many people would’ve predicted Bolton’s sudden run of poor form and Arsenal’s capitulation, either. I see you didn’t bother to quote the first two sentences of that post, though – would that be because it actually makes your point rather redundant? Here’s a reminder anyway, just for clarity:

Time to call your Academy Director and see if there are any exciting young prospects that can reverse your rapidly fading form, methinks.

Talking of Champions League........to the tune of Liverpool's "We are the Champions, Champions of Europe"....... "We are Benfica, Lions Of Lisbon"

Took out both Man U and Liverpool.......not bad considering the Portuguese League is poor and the English League is the 3rd best in Europe.
It was a goal, and only fantasists such as Mourinho would bother to claim otherwise. In any case, had the goal not been given, Chelski would've seen their goalkeeper red-carded and a penalty awarded against them. A moot point then, I think you'll find.

I much prefer; We won it FIVE TIMES! We won it FIVE TIMES! In Istanbul, we won it FIVE TIMES! You must remind me, though - I've forgotten all of those famous Heerenveen chants, recalling their numerous cup-winning heroics.

The Premiership is the best league in Europe, period (that saves me backtracking for an older post to quote, too). I’m not even sure if it’s necessary to bother looking for quotes, given that the competition seem to have been relegated with a handful of games still to play.

You post far too much

btw, Jonathan Soriano is another that was massive in the Under 17's, who, like many, has not yet made it. He made an even bigger impact than Le Tallec and Pongolle, who also haven't gone on and made the most of their potential.

Being great in the under 17's, means nothing.

I don't suppose you are old enough to remember Nii Lamptey, but he had the football world at his feet, but never made it big time. Also Cherno Samba was meant to be massive, & David Aganzo and Javier Portillo had better youth records than Raul. Now they are playing in Israel and Belgium respectively. Go figure.

Thing is, I support Heerenveen, where I have lived in my life, not a team where i've never visited the City. It's too easy to glory hunt, and something I will not do.

How is Cornwall this time of year anyway?

I'm sure they will me more thorough with their research next time.

Where did they get 18 points from? Was that the number of points won by Altrincham when this lad was playing? Are the other teams going to be given the points?

If playing well at an under-16s tournament was an indication of how good a player was then Paul Dickov would be one of the world's greats by now!

That's all I can say.

I think the 18 points came from number of games he played for the club(14) and number of goals he scored(4) so a point for each making 18 deducted. The other clubs wont be getting the points as far I know, some managers may have something to say about that if it effects their team.

Well no play-offs this season for Stevenage . I'm gutted but frankly we did not deserve to make them after the rubbish away form. Forest Green staying up with Tamworth and Scarborough down unless Alty's appeal fails and then Tamworth will be safe.

The interview with the Stevenage manager after the game was very interesting and he was very frank in what he said unlike he has been for much of the season with his over confident comments. He was also saying the club or the team rather than us, something he's not done before. With his contract up in a couple of weeks maybe he'll not get a new one and rumours going round he want's to buy a football club with Canvey being mentioned.Justin Gregory is also meant to be leaving.
