When the first strain started there were only a couple of cases. Only took 2 weeks before it was a huge amount of cases. They are putting precautions in place so that hopefully it would stay as low as 9!

its a case of damned if they do, and damned if they don't, I think it is sensible to take precautions while we don't know anything about the disease, each country is responsible for their own citizens, and while the news out of SA seems positive, we have to do our own due diligence.

I do actually agree that the reaction to this new variant is odd, purely because it's not evidence-based - we don't actually know anything about it and how it differs to other variants, other than theory. An awful lot of people declaring doom based on ... a lot of "mights" and "maybes".

the media want a sensational story with the "will christmas be saved" crap that they pulled last year.

As i said earlier in this thread, if omicron proves to produce next to no nasty symptoms, then the best thing we can do is get as many people infected as possible to build up immunity. So all this panic may actually be counter productive .... time will tell
