Surely for it to be an insult, it has to be either intended to offend or be perceived by the recipient as an insult. It was apparent neither case could be applied in this instance.

Well thats isnt always true, sometimes the person throwing the banter intends it to hurt or offend the other person. Or the recipient may be secure enough not to be offended or insulted. That doesnt make an insult any less insulting or offensive.

However in this particular case Victor didnt say it to belittle, demean or offend Brian, it was just banter. Victor seems to be the sort of person who doesnt see a persons sexuality as an excuse to insult them, nor as a reason to give a person special priviledges.
