..yeah, that's a possibility Sticks..to some cultures, honour is everything...I wonder if that would be how her family would feel as well though...

Maybe she thought she had brought great dishonour and in some cultures if you do that you must pay with your life.

Don't forget the various honour killings we have in certain communities.

Yes, although this Prank was
YouTube, TV and World radio.

Newspapers are not at fault
they are just reporting news

why are we discussing this? why is this news? no one is privy to the motives of the woman's suicide, and aside from some royal~element~ i fail to see how it's an important story

people suck.

Because at first the prank was funny,
and her death has changed it all
those DJ's are not well know down under
so sack the feckers

Also it was pre-recorded
so sack the CEO of the sation as well

Except that the newspapers are at fault - this didn't need to be a news story, it could have easily just been kept to the listeners of that Australian radio station, but instead they made it a huge scandal.

It Went Viral on Youtube

The fault was with the hospital

The had no trained receptionist on to screen the initial call.

Anyone who works in the medical profession knows that you NEVER give out information on a patient over the phone.

So for that reason, the blame lies with the person who did just that. That person should have been dealt with in the same fashion as if it were a regular Joe Bloggs patient.. possibly a warning, and a suspension. The hospital staff are to blame for breaching basic confidentiality rules.

I don't think the DJs have anything to answer for here to be honest. They played a prank. They didn't do it maliciously. They weren't trying to elicit information from the hospital, and they said beforehand that they didn't expect to get away with much more than a few sentences because of their dreadful accents.

I'm no buying that this woman has taken her own life as a result of making a mistake at work. That would be a gross over-reaction. She has a husband and two children. There must have been more going on in her own life for her to reach this point.

Unless of course, she was receiving abuse and/or threats from the public as a result of her error. In which case, that should be investigated.

It's all quite tragic. A woman is dead, and her family deserve to know the reason why.

Agree with this. It was also pre-recorded and vetted by the station lawyers so they are even less culpable IMO. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but we are not blessed with it unfortunately.

As lily has said a woman is dead, a husband without a wife and 2 children are without a mother now, my thoughts and concerns are with them.

Are the press now going to hound the DJ's until we have another tragedy on our hands? We don't need the irony.

You cannot make a call on that. We all know what hounding by the media can cause. Imagine the weight of something like this on your shoulders? Continued pressure could send either of them to breaking point.

The radio DJs behind a prank call to the hospital treating the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge have apologised after the nurse they duped apparently took her own life.

2Day FM presenters Mel Greig and Michael Christian were posing as the Queen and Prince Charles when they got Jacintha Saldanha to put them through to another nurse, who divulged details of Kate's treatment for severe morning sickness.

In their first interview since the tragedy, Ms Greig said she wanted to say sorry to Ms Saldanha's husband and two children.

"I've just thought about this a million times in my head that I've wanted to just reach out to them and just give them a big hug and say sorry," she said, wiping away tears.

"I hope they're OK, I really do. I hope they get through this."

Mr Christian said: "We just hope that they get all the love and support and care that they need."

When asked how he felt he simply said: "Gutted, shattered, heartbroken."

Ms Greig told of the moment she was told of Ms Saldanha's death, describing it as "the worst phone call I've ever had in my life".

"I haven't stopped thinking about it since it happened. I remember my first question was 'was she a mother?'"

The pair said the prank call idea came up in a team meeting, and that it was "collaborative" rather than a single individual's idea.

The DJs are on indefinite leave and have been getting "intensive" counselling to deal with the death of Ms Saldanha

..my heart goes out to these djs...it all went so horribly wrong, but they couldn't have known that...I hope this puts an end to any negative media or public attention..and lets them start to heal themselves...a lot of people have suffered through this...and yes..they were part of it..but imo not a part which was intentionally malicious in anyway....

I feel really bad for the DJs, they wont be able to not think they are (partly) responsible for this :/

that's because they are, in life you have to take responsibility fir your own actions to grow as a person.
To hound a pregnant woman in hospital, that should never have even been suggested imo.

I don't get why they keep using the "We tried 5 times to get through to the Hospital to get consent" argument to defend themselves. It's hard to believe they tried it 5 times yet still broadcast it anyway... And if they did it was pretty silly, for something like that they should've waited until they got consent.
