The back story of Gina is fake with near 100% certainty. She isn't rich: in fact she needs the prize money more than most of the HMs. She does spend quite a bit of money on tacky clothes, shoes and hairdressing though. She's a TKMaxx Princess.

Back story of Dexter is also fake but with less certainty. He does seem to have been involved in the more seamy side of the entertainment industry, but he has no money, now. It's possible he did have money at some point, but it's all gone now.

I read they asked their parents 'Are we being funny'
The other Hm managed to ignore their loved ones ,the twins have each other but they found it imperative to know if they were funny.
