I think I may get what you say, something you feel rather than are told to believe.

That's how I form my feelings and views on faith or spiritual issues.

Going by your conscience maybe, as kizzy said. You don't need a rule book or a belief in a greater being to give you a moral code.

I cannot believe all life happened by pure accident so I do believe in some 'mastermind' behind it all.
I come from a Catholic upbringing and although I moved back from a great deal that was taught to me from that, some elements of it I hold onto.

Taking only the Gospels, the words and actions attributed to Jesus, then I see little I could not desire from them.
The Christian ideals as set out by him as stated in those gospels are a very attractive scenario.
So I guess many of those Christian ideals in those Gospels I have taken on board as I go through life and try my best to 'reach out' and 'build up' others in accordance to that teaching as opposed to 'turning away' and 'bringing down' others.

I guess I am still really looking for faith as such but if you remove the other men's additions to much in the Bible and particularly the New Testament Gospels, then the small bits that are left are pretty good guides to a maybe possibly better and more fulfilled existence as to faith.

Its not by accident joey but by the laws of physics mainly and the chemical elements found in our universe. add that to a timespan that is almost incomprehensible and you will get life as we know it though natural selection.

and in time we will find that it has been replicated many, many times in the universe

Basically if it says King James on the front throw it in the bin.

the atheist output in the Uk is pitiful. it offers no beliefs no values no wrestling with moral quandaries.....it sits and sneers from the sidelines, demands us all to believe life is meaningless and demands people are allowed to kill themselves in hospital and mocks and sneers and laughs at anyone who dare think maybe there is more. atheism in this country is a sad cynical populist nasty shallow , its a scornful place of cheap laughs a truly bitter Church.

You don't have to be atheist to believe that people should be given the freedom to kill themselves if that's what they want. Better that people are given freedom of choice than told what to do by overbearing Christians who think their own views should have anything to do with anyone else's.

And not all atheists mock people for differing views. All it means is that you don't believe in anything out there. Nothing more, nothing less. In every sector of society you always get ignorant pricks, so of course there are intolerant militant atheists, just as there are evangelical religious nuts who think it's their job to save others from eternal damnation.

Think I find religious people who make negative sweeping generalisations about a huge group of people much more offensive and ridiculous than the vast majority of decent people who just happen to not believe in a higher being.

That was one of the most unoriginal replies Ive ever read. It was just the same cliched tripe espoused by the everyman populist british atheist who seems to simply exist to take cheap shots against Christianity and never actualy to any values. Its so utterly boring and predictable and of course disrespectful.

I don't think you're in any position to talk about predictable and disrespectful.

I think the term is "Agnostic" what I am. It mean's nothing to me.

I'm quite happy to join in with the main Christian festival's, more out of tradition, and it's a good time, so every one's a winner.

I call myself agnostic but i think i secretly lean more towards the atheist side
But really there will never be any concrete proof for or against the existance of 'god' in my lifetime anyway so i don't really think about it much. if i die and go to heaven, great. if i die and there's nothing..well i won't know so that's great too i guess. i'm not good at wording **** like this, hope it makes sense.

I hate people. Religion is just one of many reasons. When the aliens invade I will be eating popcorn. Or if they don't/can't invade, I will just have to make do with WW3. The world will always be a sh..hole until religion, war, money is eradicated and humans evolve.

I would say I'm agnostic, I don't know and I don't care. I live my life as good of a person as I can be because I like people, not for fear of being punished in the after life. Life is too short to waste on worshipping a God that may or may not exist imo

A stand up routine from someone who doesn't actually understand 70% of what he's saying, is that supposed to contribute to the thread?

He seems to not understand the meaning of two little words; FREE WILL.
