Aww sorry youv'e had a little trouble with Betty, Chris.

My advice to you would be..
>Talk to her (she can then recognise your voice)
>Try and see if she feeds from your hand, if she does she trusts you
>Don't try to maul her, becuase she will get into the habbit of biting you
>Bond with her now, it's easier when the hamster is young

i had to leave my hampster in its cage for a few days after i first got him so that he could get used to it. the first time you pick them up they get really scared and squeak but dont worry once betty gets used to you picking her up she will be fine.

I've had a few hamsters before.

One of them escaped and was missing for like a week, then it just turned up one day covered in dust.

Another one we had kept escaping from its cage, we had to put a clip over the opening.

And some little girl killed one of them, she tried to squeeze it into a plastic bottle.

Thanks for the advice Soph. I'll try that feeding thing tonight. She has eaten a Choc Drop from my Mums hand on the first night.

Betty is seeming a lot more happier. Shes running around happily in her ball, no squeaking. Its all good

I tried what you said Sophie- about eating out of the hands!

I kept dropping the food. But the second time she came close and was about to take it when I dropped the sunflower seed.
I think shes slowly starting to trust me. I get scared she'll bite me, but I know your not allowed to show the fear.

She trusts my Mum a lot, as my Mum always rests her hand in the cage and Betty just sniffs and has no problem.

Don't worry, she isn't going to bite you!
If you feel scared, she feels scared.

With the food just put a load on your hand, put your hand into the cage, she will sniff you, but she just want to know who you are!
