I know a couple of people who have had the vaccine.
Like Cherie, I didn't know anyone who had it in the first wave last year but lots who have had it this time. Mainly fairly mild but one if the Dads at my sons school (39 and no underlying conditions) ended up in intensive care and they gave him a 30% chance of survival. He did beat it but has been left with long covid. I also know of a couple of deaths of friends of friends.

All hail the Moyesiah

My Gran had her first jab a couple of weeks ago and my Auntie had hers yesterday because she's a care worker
Good to see a lot of the initial sceptism has faded away a bit and the uptake seems very good now |

I will get it. I don't know when because if we look at how it's going right now, I probably will be vaccinated in 2034 since Macron is taking his time as if we haven't lost a lot of it already.

Both Great Aunts (80+) and my sister (front line worker) have had their first dose and my Dad got the appointment letter today to go for his next week.
Getting there slowly but surely... |

SIGH

My Nan is having hers on Saturday. My mum is having it in a few weeks too I think. My other half is having his in a few weeks too with his sister, and when the time comes I will definitely be having it. I can see people having genuine, unselfish issues with having it but I just want this **** over and done with now.

...I understand you feeling uncertainty, Daniel...because this whole world that we’re living has obviously created our environments to create uncertain and scary etc so that’s the place we all live in...but try not to worry about which one you’ll get because they’ll all bring us closer..(..hopefully...)...to freedoms and contact returning and a more safe and healthy world...you’ll be fine, my love and it’s a step toward what we’ve all been hoping for..

It depends; if it turns you into an "immune carrier" I probably wouldn't bother - I don't care that much if I get Covid, but I don't want to be protected while also possibly spreading it to my family.

You could be asymptomatic without the vaccine as well so surely better to take it as for AZ at least there is evidence it reduces transmission by 2/3s? I expect other vaccines will be found to cut transmission as well

Thanks Ammi.
I still feel a bit uneasy, but I will get it done, my appointment is all sorted, and I'm 26, but I work in social work ![]() I'm more worried about the long term effects than short term Last edited by Daniel.; 05-02-2021 at 11:51 AM. |

Yes. Though I highly doubt I will be offered it.
I was a bit on the fence when it seemed the point was to reduce symptoms if you catch it, and you could still spread it. Seemed very very pointless except for high risk people who have a sigificant chance of getting it badly. But given it seems to be helping to stop the spread, yeah. Balance has shifted somewhat to me. |

I read some sciencey thing thing the other night out of pure curiousity, and it stated the main mistake near every country has made, is to assume covid behaves like the flu. So you would expect to see 2 people infected per infected person, and it would be 'guessable/trackable' a bit more. But, it seems that many people will not pass it on, but most 'outbreaks' are simply a superspreader event. That also would explain how some countries/areas seem to be ravaged while others have nothing (taking away the incompetant response of course..). Superspreader stuff really scares the crap out of me, especially how theres no way to tell if you are one. If anyone is interested, I found it quite fascinating https://www.theatlantic.com/health/a...ndemic/616548/ Seems a bit weird though, statistics wise, that when deaths and such were much lower, it seemed loads knew someone very ill (or who had died) and the numbers are bloody huge now, and..well nothing. For here. Though I feel I am sort of tempting fate in a way, even mentioning this. As we have seen how very quickly things can turn.. |
