Just watch Jupiter for several hours, or even better, over the course of a few nights. I've done it throughout the night as a few of the moons are easy enough to track. Io has an orbit just shy of 2 days. You wouldn't need an expensive telescope. Depending on positioning, some of the moons traverse Jupiter rather quickly and you can see them even disappear behind it. It can also cast shadows, but with a less than powerful telescope one can argue that's simply an "artifact" as it just looks like dots
Venus is more obviously spherical especially when seen in a crescent form. Granted it's only available some parts of the year just after sunset or just before sunrise. Both are easy to find with the naked eye, especially if trained on where they are typically are across the year. Though, Venus is not always clearly a crescent depending on both our position and its position around the Sun. I did find it in crescent form by accident when I was a kid and it was the first planet I was able to observe. It was close enough to the horizon line at the time that it looked like it was baking... (think hot pavement)
