Hip Hop means rap / graffiti / turntablism(DJing) / beatboxing and breakdancing. It's freestyle, rough and ready ..... R&B came from another place....Gospel and soul music. It's smooth and refined.

or me, Hip hop and R&B were different in the 80's and early 90's but since then, they really overlap. People like Outkast, Akon, or fugees etc, you have to class them in both cathegories. Thats why I cant really differenciate them now. Of course there are classic R&B singers, but they are more rare.
