I get what you mean, but as I'm not religious I can't really understand why a couple in that situation would want to get married through the church if they understand perfectly that the church is against homosexuality; a Christian gay couple would at least know that the church doesn't condone homosexuality.

Yes, but the church also apparently condones peace & love to ALL humanity. The church, on paper, only really forbids practicing homosexuality.

If so, why are gay couples fighting to be "married" as opposed to civil ceremony?
Because they are fighting for equality. They want to be "married" not "civilly united".

That is my issue with gay marriage; it's degrading and demeaning for all parties involved; the couple and the church.
uhmm... not all marriages take place in a Church.

Yeah, those are called civil ceremonies, marriages take place in churches, if it takes place in the registry office it's a civil reception.

I am totally for it (as a Bi man)

I don't see why two men in love should be treated any differently from a man and a woman in love.

everyone has a right to love! i'm not saying that you'll see me at gay marches etc but if my child was to be gay at first i would be shocked and in disbelief but at the end of the day that my child who i will always love unconditionally and i would respect him more for coming out as i know thats a hard thing to do!

Against.

Why? because I think marriage should be between a man and a woman.

First of all. I answered a question.

Second, it has been tradition since the beginning of time that marriage is between a man and woman.

Thirdly, as far as I know, the church is against homosexuality. Getting married usually involves a pastor of some sort. So if the church is against it, why should they be obligated to take part in a ceremony that they feel is wrong to begin with?

Feel me?

BBUK4LYFE is allowed an opinion, whether you agree or not. Just because he doesn't believe two men should be able to get married doesn't make him ignorant. His reason was valid enough, he thinks marriage is between a man and a woman. If he was ignorant, he would have attacked people for being gay and wanting to get married but he didn't.

No, it's retarded. Completely retarded. Saying ''marriage should be between a man and a woman'' is a statement, not an argument. Why should it be between a man and a woman exactly? Because it's so sacred that you can get Elvis to perform the ceremony and get a divorce two weeks later? And as an opinion, it infringes on the opinions of others, e.g. two gay men who wish to marry, therefore I have no obligation to respect that opinion.

Two gay men who want to marry have absoloutely nothing to do with me. Their damaging absoloutely nobody but themselves. Why on earth would I want to prevent them from doing what they want to do. Thats being ignorant.

I stated several reasons why.

Go do your research, then come back and holla.... K?

Because gay marriage is illegal that's why.

People want to do a lot of things, but the law prevents them from doing it.

A lot of people want to go and buy weed, but they don't.. why? because its not legal.

Just giving an example.

At the end of the day, I don't care if you're gay or not. Its none of my business what people do with their sexual life.

Well yes, it is illegal, but thats the whole point of the debate, you tit. Some people want to make it legal. Just like millions of people will still buy weed tonight because they feel like it's their right to do what they want with their bodies provided they dont harm another living soul.

I already dealt with your reasons earlier on in the thread, homeboy. The Church is not against homosexuality [The Bible is] but PRACTICING it. If the church was against homosexuality that much, why is their openly gay members of clergy? Good god man. The church is also against contraception and masturbation. Ever indulged in either of those?
