Today we present to you The Music Box, A new way for the forum to play, share and experience a whole new variety of music the members of the forum love most.

The Music Box is already a ready made feature on the forum, But nothings been expanded on it since its inclusion. The foundations are there for something great to be created & taken advantage from. Our creation brings a whole new dimension for music to be viewed on the forum. Regulars to the forum will know outside of Big Brother, Music is the biggest part to the forum. It creates countless discussions and it has allowed members to be introduced to music they never knew existed.

Most members will be aware of ******** and Last.fm. Our idea brings these two extremely popular websites together to create one unique section to the forum. For those that aren't aware of either website, ******** allows groups of people to join rooms and listen to any music from Youtube freely. They are able to join queues and they are given the option to judge what they are listening to by either clicking "Woot" (like) or "Meh" (dislike). Last.fm is a website which connects to peoples iTunes and allows them to keep records of what they've played. It puts songs into different categories, Most played weekly/monthly and yearly. It also keeps tracks of their most played artists of all time.

Our idea is to empower people from around the forum to share music in a community environment. When members choose to click on the Music Box, it'll take them to a new section of the forum. There will be a great variety of things do to.

Playlists:

Members will be able to create and save their own playlists to the forum, This will run on an SMC player. An SMC player is a small bar that either runs at the top or bottom of your screen. It has the basic pause, start and skip functions as well as the name of the song being played. It is a very smart and thin music player designed to allow you all of your screen space whilst also being able to control the music. Playlists will be created using Youtube URL's. This insures there is no illegal music being downloaded and members will be able to also listen to music for free this way. The useful thing about the SMC player is that no videos will pop up, Just the audio and the ability to listen freely. You will be able to put together your perfect playlists. The next stage to this will be Music Records. Everything thats played on the forum will be stored and added to the Music Records. This will run on a similar format to last.fm. Members music will be stored in lists of categories, There will be 2 options to view most played from personal choice and including everyone else's music from around the forum daily, weekly, monthly and yearly. There will be two sections for this, Artists and Songs. This allows members to get a rough idea from whats popular and whats not from around the forum. Who and what will be the most popular song this week? Who will be the most played artist this month? What will be the forums most played song this year? You will all find out.

Music Box Hosting:

The second main section to The Music Box will be Music Box Hosting. This will give forum members the ability to create rooms with their friends to host, play and share music. It will run on a similar format to the famous ********. Up to 50 members will have the ability to join a room at a time and you will either have the option to relax and listen to others in there sharing and playing their music or you can get involved yourself and share yours. The Music Box Hosting will connect to your original playlists you've created and it will play music from there. We believe having the option to create rooms to share with your friends will benefit the forum instead of sticking to one room. Not everyone shares the same taste in music, this allows those that are into different genres or maybe share similar taste with other members to freely play their playlists without having to worry about other members not enjoying what they're playing. A chat box for this won't be introduced like they have on ********. This is likely to cause a diversion from the forum and threads may slowly decrease. A 'Music Box Hosting' thread in the music section will be created. This gives members the option to post once they have opened up a new room and allows us to discuss the records section. Members of the forum like to discuss their favourites and give arguments why they think their artists are better than others. Now you will be able to compare you're favourites popularity on the forum to those of others.


There are endless amounts of fun to be had from this. It will increase the activity of the forum and it'll enlighten members to different types of music they've never experienced before.

My question is this (I'll give proper critique at the end): given that the task was to find a feature to replace the music box, are you sure that coming up with something of the same name was a good idea?

Plug allows people to use a chat box and it takes all attention away from the forum. During nights on here when members go into plug the difference in activity in threads is massive. There won't be any of this anymore.

Last.fm will still be there for individuals to use, but as of yet there is no way to make comparisons on the amount of music we've listened to as a forum. As music is one of the biggest factors to the forum i can imagine quite a few people would like to see different records over weekly, monthly and yearly periods.
