It honestly feels like they wrote this season as they went along instead of having a solid plot outline, it's annoying since Roanoke seemed to have jettisoned the the ADHD writing of Coven/Freakshow/Hotel but it's come right back like a weed.

The show desperately needs new writers.

That episode had some good elements but it's a little too late tbh.

Francis should have been in it more, in her few scenes as the cult leader she was more convincing at it than Evan was in ten episodes. The fact that his character has just reverted back to being a stereotype is also really annoying, they had something interesting going on with him essentially being an agent of chaos that supported no one or nothing that didn't benefit him but now he's just a Trump fanboy and that's just boring.

Ally vs Kai should have been a storyline that started earlier, Ally's quite a good character now that she's doing something other than screaming but it's so problematic that all her character development happened offscreen.

The Sharon Tate stuff was vile and completely unnecessary and it highlighted the biggest issue with this season, shallow violence for the sake of covering up a weak plot. The use of the Manson murders for nothing more than cheap violence was just vulgar. I almost switched off at that point tbh. It was just so tone deaf.

also i’m guessing the valerie story bebe told actually did happen (i thought she made it all up to get the women to revolt bc she was hired by kai or s/t... but it was her idea and not kai’s) AAAH ITS SO CONFUSING

I assume she was simply unaware of who Bebe was and saw an opportunity to solidify her position with Kai and make him believe that she couldn't be the mole. I assume if she did know who Bebe was then she would have still killed her since she put the cult in motion.

Ally wants to be the one to destroy the cult. I don't think she would have sat back and let someone else take that away from her.

I really don’t know how they’re going to wrap it up all in one episode without it feeling rushed, it still almost feels mid season at least it’ll be a proper finale for a change rather than an epilogue

i think it started going downhill when the original cult members started to die like i just didn’t like or care about kai in any way so maybe that’s why i didn’t like it as much

I'm glad that's over with.

The story of this season makes no real sense, the second half feels completely disconnected to the first and characters like Kai change completely for no reason at all while all the important character development happens off screen.

The political stuff was painful right until the end as well with AHS' takes on feminism and the political climate being painfully inane. I hope they learn they go back to doing what AHS does best next season and follow Roanoke's lead rather than Cult's.

As for the updated order from best to worst

Murder House > Asylum > Roanoke > Coven > Hotel > Freakshow > Cult

Freakshow was boring as **** but at least the characters were consistent and made sense, this series has been a mess of inconsistencies, plot holes and confused motivations.
