[Nigel Farage has welcomed Keir Starmer’s comments
on immigration, claiming that Labour is now “to the right” of the Tories. The Brexiteer said the Labour leader was repeating promises from UKIP’s 2015 manifesto with his migration stance as well as his pledge to abolish the House of Lords. Farage posted a video in response to Starmer’s speech to the CBI conference, in which he urged UK businesses to wean themselves off “immigration dependency”, warning that “low pay and cheap labour” had to end. Starmer’s comments came a day after Rishi Sunak also addressed the business group. Former UKIP leader Farage said: “So during Jeremy Hunt’s budget and since, and yesterday at CBI conference, the Tories have made clear they’re going to continue with large scale mass legal immigration. “And oh boy! Their paymasters in the big political parties, the big global companies are delighted. “Today, Keir Starmer says we must stop the reliance on cheap foreign labour, start training our own people. “What with that, and saying the House of Lords must be removed in its current shape, Starmer is now repeating the UKIP 2015 manifesto.] https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/ent...b0e771d958131a Last edited by arista; 22-11-2022 at 11:57 AM. |

Starmer has shifted way, way to the right. For some this may come as such a surprise, that they will now need to pretend it's part of a masterplan, but the truth is obvious - starmer will do or say anything to get into power, and just like Johnson, these are the very last people that should be anywhere near power

do the tories really think that fighting to keep elitist private schools during a cost of living crisis is a vote winner? It shows how out of touch they are

"The anti-democratic labour party strikes again."
But they want to take over, at the next General Election. Strict control from now on is logical from Starmer |

Yes, and he wants to abolish second jobs for MPs. Something I think is well overdue. There are many MPs like that horrendous David Lammy and Esther McVey who behave as if they're NOT MPs. Both spend more time writing in the newspapers and being on TV and radio. It makes me furious when I see Esther McVey presenting TV shows on GB News as if she is a free agent. ![]() ![]() ![]() I do hope Starmer puts this policy into action. It's well overdue. Thanks. ![]() ![]() |

I applaud this idea.
Although I'd like to hear a lot of the detail too. An elected chamber instead of the Lords. Great. HOW would he want it elected, by first past the post or a PR system. If not PR what's the point of again having under half the votes cast dictating with an overall status in the new chamber. That is a concern. If he would like PR for the second chamber then why not go all the way and adopt the policy of PR overwhelmingly supported at Conference this year for general elections too. He does really NEED to spell out at least a bit of the finer detail of things he proposes. I applaud most of what he is proposing but I wish he'd get over the fear of going much further on other issues which could turn off some voters. Which I doubt really would turn them off IF he showed the conviction and passion for them. Such as taking energy at least into public ownership. He does I'm sure believe that right to look at and do and I still believe most of the Country would applaud that policy too. I'd like him to and hope he will, as the election approaches really go for massively changing policies on a good number of issues. The chance is there but he doesn't need to risk that chance disappearing by a lack of boldness on his part. This House of Lords idea though and more powers to the rest of the UK. Certainly that should prove a vote winner no doubt. I just want him to return to the things he still claims he's open on. Because if he was to present the things he really still knows he could support then he'd come across better presenting such policies. Last edited by joeysteele; 05-12-2022 at 08:47 AM. |
