i read that story too, very distressing. The taliban response was that they didn't do it, it was someone else, and I think that will be the default response to any act of atrocity

To be fair I believe wholeheartedly that there will be plenty of non-Taliban groups in Afghanistan who are also committing these acts of violence - emboldened by the new "government", and with that in mind, "It wasn't us" simply shouldn't be enough. If The Taliban isn't seen to be actively finding and harshly dealing with the "not us"'s then they must be viewed as complicit. It has to be clear that saying "meh that wasn't us" isn't a way to palm off responsibility for actions like these. Other countries should hold them responsible for these attrocities whether it was "officially sanctioned Taliban action" or not.

I truly think Islamic countries also need to step up and try to keep the Taliban in line. They have no respect for the infidel and would be more receptive to Islamic countries than they would be to ours. Maybe.

i think it's easy to forget that the taliban are afghans, they basically won a civil war, with the people knowing exactly what they were like and what they could expect life to be like. There may be some aspects of taliban rule that hack the population off, but the majority of people must be ok with it or it wouldnt be so easy for them. Even while nato were there for 20 years, the country was in extreme poverty, some aspects may have improved, but not enough to change the peoples mind set
