Again, there is no way to say this without sounding like a music nazi but for most of the young ones it really is all down to age.

Do you reckon they will all be into Leona Lewis into their twenties? Not a chance.

I can totally agree with all of that!

And most certainly do, my Mum loves the Rolling Stones sfm so I couldn't help but go to the 'Bridges to Babylon' and 'A Bigger Bang' tours!

Twilight, I'm sorry if I offended you. I forget sometimes that you're young, and without wanting to sound patronising, when I was your age I was into all sorts of horrible **** and probably didn't even know who Ringo Starr was.

You also seem to have more...rockier? leanings lately, stuff like Paramore and All Time Low. Which I guess isn't as bad as it could be...*glares at MeMyselfandI*...and hopefully in a few years' time we'll be talking about how amazing the Kinks were

That good enough?
The thread quite simply is 'Best and Worst Album Covers' If you don't really have much of a knowledge of older music then your opinion is quite simply not as formed as others who know more simply. To use the sports analogy again if I went into a similar thread about footballers and posted the few that I know as the best then it wouldn't be that good of an opinion since I don't know much about football as a whole. THAT'S THE POINT.

If this thread was just about the last two years then fine but it's not, You can't berate him for having a valid point that some of the highest regarded music and covers ever have come about pre-2008. If I posted up the album cover to Smurfs Go Pop as the best album cover of all time then people would say their piece about that. It's a forum it's meant for debate, if you don't like your opinions being looked at then keep them to yourself.

Aye. I started out on rockier stuff at her age too but it was a tough battle. I was a full time Cyclefly and Limp Bizkit addict. Thankfully I pulled through.

The light is brighter on the other side.

Part of the reason why I secretly hope the labels shut down online downloading for good is that with the death of the album, nobody gives a **** about putting interesting artwork on covers anymore.

The best days were vinyls when you would have a large record sleeve and the artwork was usually done by an artist and not some random, nameless photoshopper for the record label.

Absoloutely. An album should be a complete artwork. Not just the songs but the packaging should all be part of a cohesive theme.

Albums are not a collection of bytes on a memory stick.

I agree, first thing I do when I get an album is put it in to the CD player and read the little book that comes with it

*doesn't know how to put what she wants to say into words* For one,I think people are putting their favourite's,rather than one's they think are iconic. I'm not even going to pretend I know much about album covers, besides the obviously iconic ones like the Abbey Road Beatles cover. Most people just care about the music. I do think people should at least try and listen to old music and if they don't like, fair enough. Although tbf the only old music I have is stuff like Queen,The Beatles,The Ramones and so on. Not enough people care about music enough to go through loads of music to find what they like. Also as much I hate it,cos people are downloading more, people pay less attention to the covers.

I think the best suggestions are a mixture. I'm not a huge fan of U2 but I think the Joshua Tree was an amazing cover, like all the artwork for that album, thanks mainly to the genius of Anton Corbijn, who also does all of Depeche Mode's visual work. It also set the trend for that daft lead singer looking away from the camera in a meaningful way thing.

The Rammstein cover in addition to looking brillianty cheesey raised quiet a lot of controversy due to it's 'master race' connotations.

The Rage Against The Machine cover of the monk setting himself on fire in protest was a real photo of a real event.

Pink Floyd's early covers were all bizarre to the point of hillarity yet still managed to look iconic. A cow in a field with no band name or album title whatsoever? Now that's an album cover .

The HIM one, well okay, that's just sexy. But it does look very Berlin noir.

-doesnt quite know where to begin with this thread-

I don't see all the fuss tbh. People listen to music for plenty of reasons, clearly Chewy listens to it for shallow purposes, he likes what's on the radio and doesn't truly invest in any artists or what not. Sometimes music is just for fun and this condemning of him for not knowing about album covers from 20 years ago seems so petty to me.

I can quite clearly see the value of exploring old music and different genre. People wouldn't know it but I do have a reasonably vast knowledge of music but the ugly truth that some can't accept is that I have explored music from years ago and I prefer music made nowadays. There are loads of music I adore from years ago, really there is but if push came to shove, I would choose to have the more relevant modern music, not because it's new, because I ****ing well like it more. The wide spread belief that 'oh that person doesnt like vintage music, NATURALLY they must just not have heard any of it.' is as ignorant as the people accusing those of ignorance.

Because I thought 'you are free to like whatever music you like' was a bit of an obvious point that did not need to be made so it looked a little daft in context.
