Boring match last night, Marseille were dangerous second half but luckily they didn't score, all to play second leg at OT and hope we make it through..

The midfield needs a desperate overhaul in the summer, can see a few departures in the squad and a few big name additions then bringing in new youngsters or promoting them from the youth team.

Wayne Rooney would have been locked up if he had shown such "ridiculous aggression" on a night out as he did on the pitch, a senior police officer has said.

Superintendent Mark Payne, responsible for managing responses to crime and operations in Wolverhampton, said his officers would face more Rooneys in the city centre this weekend and "no doubt somebody will be injured in some meaningless fight".

The Manchester United and England striker must serve a two-match suspension for his four-letter outburst to TV cameras at West Ham on Saturday.

"If Rooney had behaved like that in Wolverhampton on Saturday night, I would have expected my officers to lock him up," Mr Payne said.

"People in positions of influence have an obligation to behave like human beings. It is not a lot to ask."

Writing on his blog on policing, Mr Payne went on: "I have seen a thousand Rooneys, and I am sure most police officers will have.

"The same aggressive stance, the bulging eyes, the foul-mouthed rant, fists clenched, surrounded by his mates, all cheering him on.

"I have seen this on Friday and Saturday nights, as young men (and more often young ladies) engage in a 'good night out'.

"I have seen people argue over almost every kind of nonsense you could imagine. 'He stole my place in the taxi queue', 'he looked at my girlfriend', 'he is from the wrong estate', 'I didn't like the look of him'."

The senior officer with the UK's second largest force added that while Rooney had "offered some form of apology", "what he won't be able to do is alter the impression that he has left in the eyes of the watching youngsters".

"It is OK to insult and abuse, it is OK to react with ridiculous aggression to perceived slights or provocation, it is excusable because it is the heat of the moment," he said.

"My officers will face more Rooneys over the weekend, no doubt somebody will be injured in some meaningless fight. An officer will have to go and tell a parent that their son or daughter is in hospital as a result."

Carrick and Wilshere have dropped out because of injury, guess that Cleverley has been called up to replace them. I think Capello must have been seen how impressive he was through all of United's pre season but I do agree that he did struggle at times at Wigan last season.

Glad that Fabio is giving some more younger talent time to shine, shame he hasn't called up Albrighton yet.

A teenage Carlisle United soccer prodigy is today set to make a dream move to Premier League champions Manchester United.

The News & Star can reveal that the Old Trafford giants have struck a deal with Carlisle United to sign 14-year-old goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

The Whitehaven-based youngster has been with the Blues’ centre of excellence set-up and is regarded as a star of the future by coaches.

His impressive performances with the Blues’ age-group teams attracted the attention of a host of top clubs, with Chelsea and Newcastle among Henderson’s admirers.

But Manchester United, who yesterday beat rivals Manchester City 3-2 to win the Community Shield at Wembley, are understood to have agreed a compensation package with Carlisle on Friday.

Henderson, who is also being monitored by England youth coaches, is now expected to sign for Sir Alex Ferguson’s club this week.

The St Benedict’s School youngster, who was identified by Carlisle’s football in the community coaches at a soccer school in Whitehaven, will now join one of the most famous youth set-ups in world football

The Manchester United academy, which has produced a stream of Premier League and international stars, is headed by former Red Devils striker Brian McClair.
