It's been suggested to me that Corrie might use this sort of tech for the actual viaduct collapse (with the viaduct being an actual building in real life)

Inside Soap suggests that something else might be built under the viaduct, causing the collapse

I was just looking through Corrie news and found these pics of Helen Flanagan/Rosie Webster, firstly, ignore her xD secondly look at where that bollard is, what's there is what should be Tina and Jason's flat, instead, it looks like something is being built there

Because I've seen that area of the set from a distance, you can see Tina and Jason's flat from Quay Street

EXCLUSIVE: No one safe in tram death crash storyline

Coronation Street bosses have told the show's cast that NO ONE is safe from a dramatic tram-death storyline.

Corrie actors were given the bombshell news at a meeting on set - and now say they feel like they are performing with an axe hanging over their heads.

The horrific death drama, with a tram crashing from the viaduct at the end of the cobble-stoned street to the road below, is to mark the show's 50th anniversary in December. And none of the cast will know who dies in the Christmas bloodbath until hours before the episode is aired.

Instead producers are planning a "who shot Phil Mitchell-type mystery" - which left fans of rival soap Eastenders hooked. Lots of different endings will be shot.

But the idea has caused outrage among Corrie actors and has put them on a collision course with bosses on the ITV1 soap.

Matters came to a head last week when the show's producer Phil Collinson, 42, called a summit meeting in the set's green room and told stars: "None of you are safe."

An insider on the show said: "Phil bluntly told them things would be done his way. It was a 'my way or the highway' kind of speech. The cast wanted answers but the only thing they were told is that Phil is the boss and things will be done how he wants.

"Anyone who doesn't like it will have to lump it."

Some of the show's most senior stars including William Roach, 70, who stars as Ken Barlow and Sue Nicholls, 70, who plays Audrey Roberts, are certain to be particularly angry at the actions of show bosses.

Collinson started on the show only six months ago. But he has already made it clear he doesn't care about people's reputations.

Our insider added: "Phil has made it plain that there will be lots of different endings shot for the tram crash scenes. He wants to keep everyone guessing and keep everyone on their toes.

"The mood among cast members is usually fairly upbeat but this has put a real climate of fear around the place. Morale is at an all-time low.

"Some are really worried about their futures and it could be a long five months until the December finale."

Those thought to be most vulnerable include Norris Cole, played by Malcolm Hebden, 70, Dev Alahan, played by Jimmi Harkishin, 45, and Maria Connor, who is played by Samia Smith, 28.

Last week Street legend Betty Driver was the first to go public about the planned cull.

The 90-year-old, who plays Betty "Hotpot" Williams, in the long running soap, said she won't be killed off, insisting she'll still be pulling pints in the Rovers Return in 10 years' time.

The rail crash plot was revealed by Collinson 10 days ago on This Morning TV show. "People are going to be killed," he said. "We will be losing some well-known, well-loved characters.

"We'll be doing everything we can to keep the end secret until it transmits."

You can't blame the cast for being low in morale.

I think it's a shady way of doing business personally.

Not really, the cast should realize this is a soap, and sometimes these things need to be done

Plus I've been informed the press are trying to big up this "unrest" the people who are going will be told in due course, or may already have been told

Well if that's true then the papers are stupid but the fact still remains that you don't treat loyal cast members like they are a piece of nothing.

"it's my way or the highway"

It's lines like that which would make anyone in any job feel uneasy or insecure.

All I'm saying is the long time cast members who have been their for years and years deserve more respect.

That isnt a quote from Phil and all this is coming from a "source", I'm sure Phil assured Betty and Audrey they'd be staying, there are those obvious untouchables

Don't get me wrong I'm really looking forward to the storyline as you know, but I don't see the point in just killing people off for the sake of it.

Every death needs to have a reason for it to be happening imo.

And no I don't mean because we need a ratings boost lol.

Metrolink bosses gave the green-light to the Coronation Street tram crash plot – five years after they put the brakes on a similar storyline.

Disaster will strike as the soap celebrates its 50th anniversary later this year, with a number of characters killed and injured in a sensational accident.

Bosses at Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive are co-operating with producers – because the tram and its driver will not appear at fault.

It comes five years after they complained that plans to crash a tram into the Rovers Return would give Metrolink a ‘bad reputation’.

The plot mirrors a similar storyline from 1967 when a train came crashing through the viaduct at the end of the street and Ena Sharples was feared dead under the rubble.

A spokesman for ITV said: “We are delighted to be working closely with GMPTE on this storyline.

“We have assured them that it will be made clear that the crash is in no way the fault of the tram or the driver and they have been very helpful with our research.”

The storyline mooted in 2005 was said to feature the Street’s Claire Peacock, played by Julia Haworth, applying for a job as a tram driver.

Chris Mulligan, GMPTE’s then director general, said at the time that any story involving a tram accident would be ‘questionable’.

He said: “Given Metrolink’s excellent safety record, we felt that such a sensationalist storyline would be both misleading and detrimental to the image of the network.”

The soap denied the decision to scrap the earlier crash plot was taken because of tram bosses’ objections, saying the idea was ditched because there had been two traumatic storylines that year.

Claire went on to become a bus driver, accidentally running down Chesney Battersby-Brown’s dog Schmeichel on her first day.

The new storyline will show the viaduct collapsing at the end of the street – close to the Kabin and the Corner Shop.

It is expected to send a tram careering off the bridge and onto the cobbles, although exact details about the cull of characters are being kept firmly under wraps.

Transport chiefs say the disaster is a ‘very different storyline’ from the previous one, which was an ‘unlikely scenario’ given Metrolink’s safety record.

Susan Wildman, from GMPTE, said: “Given Metrolink’s excellent safety record, we were concerned the storyline might be detrimental to Metrolink’s public image.

“But ITV have assured us that the incident which takes place will not be the fault of either the tram system or the tram itself.

“Having received those assurances, we are pleased to be able to help ITV with their research and preparations for what I am sure will be a very dramatic storyline during Coronation Street’s 50th anniversary year.”

So if it isn't the trams fault, someone (I reckon Natasha) will have something to do with it
