Ok, this is the thing, yes, most deaf people do lead normal lives.
However it is a large amount of people who have normal hearing that do not realise this.
My husband is deaf and I can assure you he does not think Sam is in any way patronising. Quite the opposite.
It is the strangers who first meet him and think because he is deaf that he can't function like the rest of us that are patronising.
This is where I think Sam is a good role model, to show that being deaf does not mean you come from a different planet or that they are stupid.
