Try watching Phoenix nights and Max & Paddy again ,and the Peter Kaye experience ( not all of them were funny, but the Ice cream man was one of the best things Ive ever watched)

I love Peter's characters but his standup doesn't do much for me, it's not acerbic enough. Frankie Boyle remains the best
I do like observational comedy but not his for some reason |

His writing is better than his standup but his humour on both fronts is quite tired.

It's also called comedy. By a comedian. On a stage at a comedy gig. It's not real, and the humour is in the shock factor of the joke, not the target itself.
But hey, I always suspected the double standards on here were real ![]() It's a point I meant to make in those threads a while back before they were closed. The 'PC gone mad' crowd have absolutely no issues with potentially radically insensitive costumes, it's just 'a bit of fun' after all and people need to 'lighten up', but a comedian making jokes on a comedy stage? Morals! Vile! Lock 'em up! Ban it! Priorities in the wrong place methinks... |

Frankie Boyle is a professional comedian. People pay money to see him do a comedy gig, where he tells jokes, like a comedian does. As with all dark humour, the comedy is in the 'I can't believe they just said that' shock factor of the joke - rather than the target itself. Also, a lot of Frankie's comedy has satirical and political undertones to it, if you aren't going to bother watching him you wouldn't understand that. Finally, I'm not going to be lectured about morals by someone who continually mocks people based on their appearance, and for experiencing bereavement. Mine are in a much better state than yours I can assure you. And as for disabled people, I'm pretty sure you recently made a comment that a disabled participant on Strictly Come Dancing was only progressing on the 'pity vote', so Last edited by Jack_; 19-11-2017 at 07:02 PM. |

Love car share, not so keen on Max and Paddy, I find him funny and not funny in equal measure, Mr C likes him and I am going along for the experience, been a while since I have been to see a live comedian
