On topic, 0% of me is surprised by any of it. I am very saddened it happened at all, but imo, it was bound to happen to either candidate. Was it guaranteed? No. I'm sure they stopped a lot of things we don't know about. National Security is very tight around DC, for example, and you can be expected to be profiled for the easiest of social faux pas simply for looking a certain way. There is no civility from govt employees in that sector. These events are more common than people realize and the fact this man made it this far should be considered a failure of law enforcement.. and suspicious.

Btw I haven't seen it mentioned here yet, but apparently the shooter was a 20 year old Pennsylvanian named Thomas Matthew Crooks. To put that into perspective, this guy would have been around 13 when Trump was first elected.

…I don’t really that often go out on a Saturday evening but of all of the Saturdays in all of the world etc…and I didn’t look at the internet at all so am waking up to it all now…it’s a worry that the shooter was able to position himself to have such a clear shot as he did and although Donald Trump isn’t seriously wounded, a life has been lost and two critically injured…I hope that we get some information soon on the person who was killed and the two others seriously hurt…

We finally got back power at our address after a hurricane wrecked our grid. It seems we are all signs and omens of terrible things to come. I booted up the Youtube algorithm and all hell broke loose. Nothing can be stopped now
