Stupid announcements like this are just not thought out properly, so now there will be the consistent rule breakers creating a loophole out of this, throwing house parties with the excuse 'oh we thought it was ok as long as it was less that 15 people durrrrr'

[The first media question comes from Vicki Young at BBC News. She asks about Northern Ireland extending its lockdown and whether restrictions will be extended in England. She also asks the home secretary about the potential for tighter border controls. Priti Patel says it is right that "stringent measures" are currently in place. She adds it is "too early" to speak about other measures. On border restrictions, she says it is "right" that ministers do everything they can to protect people, listing a range of current measures that are in place. "All our measures are constantly under review," Ms Patel adds. Asked if the NHS has the vaccine supplies needed, Vin Diwakar, medical director for the NHS in London, says the focus is on making sure that supplies are administered as fast as they are delivered. On the lockdown generally, he echoes the home secretary in saying it is too early to think about easing up, even though there are some early positive signs that the vaccine rollout is having an impact] Last edited by arista; 21-01-2021 at 04:28 PM. |

not the government's fault that
than doctors need to work harder, and give extra care to those whom are in risk group, whom otherwise might die

doctors/nurses doing the best they can and are overworked which is out of their control. The government acts slow which causes issues for hospitals so yes it is the governments fault and also the publics for not following rules.

Why isn’t the fine for ANY number rather than above 15 ?? Someone on the radio said it was a fine for the offence .. not £800 each . So if it is £800 for the first offence and IF they get caught and IF they get fined ( and not just warned or told off ) then it’s basically a £50 fine each .. no, the government needs to take care daily new cases numbers go down
how you can get death numbers down, well make sure everyone in risk group receives best treatment as soon as possible also elderly can stay at home as much as they like by themselves, by looking at the news, and listening to simple advice

the government are the ones with the data so i can only surmise that there are a significant number of what i would describe as very large gatherings that are causing a problem. It's the only plausible reason for coming out with such a specific rule. But then, logic hasn't been a government strength in the last year

Honestly, the cases are due to stall and drop naturally before long anyway. Even without the vaccine helping things along. There is natural immunity, and if its correct that so many new infections are appearing daily, ontop of the vaccine programs, we have to be getting close to herd immunity now tbh. I know 'herd immunity' is a dirty word when it comes to covid, but its true. Vaccine brings us to that point faster.
I feel that the stricter the restrictions get at this stage, the more people will stop listening. SAGE knew this would happen back in lockdown 1. They picked the lockdown time specifically knowing that the public would at one stage become fatigued and start ignoring it. That point has long passed. While some are still religiously follwing rules, it seems the minority round here tbh. Noones going mad and having raves, but I see family visits and such all the time, where earlier in the year, it was a ghost town. Best plan is just to get on with vaccinating the vulnerable as quickly as possible. Thats all that can be done at this stage, as trying to tighten will have the opposite effect I think..
