I Love Niamh’s Brick

Is there no way we could monitor it to make it less argumentative? Like an opt in option and then have it in a private sub forum for the night to keep it off the main board so guests can't view it?

Well I think cancelling will cause more trouble than having it, my opinion there, but if that is James' choice.

Realistically and in the spirit of democracy, I don't think we should have one without the other...

it makes no sense really, cancelling something six years after it started, but hey ho that's just another tick in the big old book of "things i can do on tibb to make it look like i'm running it"

Jolly good

I didn't really want to put this up for discussion (as it will inevitably cause more trouble) but seeing as it has been mentioned already.
These are the reasons I can think of for not allowing Razzies. There are controversies on the forum that would come up again during Razzies that I don't think we need to keep re-visiting. There is a cliquey thing going on at the moment, and, as we have seen before, block voting would happen just to make sure certain people 'win'. I think on the one hand, Razzies reward infamy on the forum and people acting like idiots. On the other hand, others might feel like they are being picked on and not want to come on again. We don't want to drive people away. |

It may happen.. Then the more immature members will bring their razzie issues onsite and it'll all be awful anyway

..with respect James, I think it’s equally as likely to ‘drive people away’ when they’re constantly feeling that decisions are being made about things that have been ‘tradition’ for a while and that they’ve enjoyed and by an admin that doesn’t seem particularly interested in the forum unless it’s to ‘take something away’...maybe if members felt that this was more of a MOD decision because they were against it and felt it caused too much trouble/hassle, because they do know the forum..then it would be easier...but yeah, you’ve made your decision ....so I don’t really have anything else to say...
..and this is from someone who never even votes in them but can definitely see that balance is needed and the Razzies gives it in a more structured way than it being more ‘spread out’ and seeping through threads....

It saddens me that one of the forum's longest running award ceremonies (perhaps it's the longest running? I'm not sure) has become a scapegoat. The Razzies have always remained a light hearted thread designed to poke fun at antics on the forum. They have outlasted all of the forum's dramatic episodes because the people involved in those situations either got over it or stopped logging into the site. This has always been the case - the thread itself is not the issue, it's the members who attach a negative stigma to the thread that are the issue.
I think it's blatantly clear that the same small group of users who just cannot resist having a dig at each other will continue to find ways to do this regardless of whether the Razzies exist or not. In the case of the Razzies, this will manifest itself in several ways: by making a huge statement about opting out; by intentionally nominating things that will piss certain people off; and by making snide comments about the two aforementioned things on the night of the awards. None of that is the fault of Matt or the Razzies Awards. The blame lies squarely with those users who just can't let their problems go. It's the exact same problem that dogs the Most Loved thread every time I run it - 90% of the forum enjoys it for what it is - a chance to learn a bit about people you don't know and to celebrate all that's good about this place and the people who use it. 10% of people like to turn it into a slanging match by taking the opportunity to make snide comments about others. I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't allowed to go ahead either because Most Loved is also turned into a scapegoat every time this happens. |
