Thoughts...
Semis: - Belarus beating Poland by 2pts in the semi-final is disgusting ![]() - San Marino finishing above them and Cyprus though ![]() - Ireland and Austria being the bottom 2 of Semi2 is disgusting too, as is Lithuania narrowly missing out on the final by 1 point. Final: - I really thought Serbia would be the surprise ballad contender but it was Macedonia, I guess ![]() - Germany somehow getting that much from the juries and NOTHING from the public is highly suspect and I really wish the juries were dead x - Delighted that Norway beat Sweden even with Sweden finishing top of the jury vote. HUGE gulf in quality between the two. Overall I can't have too many complaints... Norway, Italy and Switzerland were three of my four favourites and they all landed in the top 5. Iceland finished 10th with an intentionally abrasive song that is way over the heads of the typical gays that attend ![]() The only thing that disgusted me was Russia finishing 3rd. That song was barely in the top 20 of the night. I do like the Netherlands song but it's not a classic winner. Italy would've been more deserving, at least it's memorable.

Oh and my rankings...
1 - Iceland - not just for the balls with their flags but... just far and away the most unique thing on Eurovision in a long time, and I'm partial to a bit of industrial rock 2 - Switzerland - biggest banger of the night, could and should enter the charts for being an absolute dance anthem ![]() 3 - Norway - Deserved to win the public vote, such a joyful and catchy song. Half CHVRCHES and half OneRepublic. 4 - Italy - a proper, excellent song that stood out from everything else. A great voice, and an understandable hit in Europe. Hope it charts highly. 5 - Azerbaijan - LOVE the staging with the laser heart beating, and also a pretty great song 6 - Malta - something very weird about it that separated it from the other "wobbly-pop Fuego wannabe" entries this year, stands out 7 - Estonia - Didn't deserve to flop really, enjoyed the staging of it and whilst he was a bit bland as a performer, the song was solid and catchy. 8 - San Marino - A huge amount of fun ![]() 9 - Netherlands - it'll take some time to grow on me, but I can't help but think it'd be better if the eerie background instrumentals were amplified. 10 - Cyprus - I loved it the first time I heard it, but with repeated listens it's become pretty boring and repetitive. Ironic given its title. 11 - Sweden - technically a good song but I just found John and his voice a bit... lacking? The backing singers totally upstaged him. 12 - Denmark - adorable but not the best song 13 - Australia - vastly overrated and would be nothing without the staging gimmick. Just found it annoying, really. 14 - North Macedonia - lovely song, didn't deserve to do that well though 15 - Czech Republic - it's KINDA catchy but really not enough... the verses are a bit all over the place and there's no flow to the song at all 16 - Albania - bit of a powerhouse with her voice, stood out a lot but not necessarily for good reasons. 17 - Russia - a pretty bland song with some hysterically OTT staging that just came across as "Sergey really ****ing loves himself". 18 - Israel - the song itself was boring but I felt endeared towards him at the end of it when he started crying, and his voice was great. 19 - Greece - I like her voice and how unusual it is, but this song was just... grating and I got a strong sense she thought she was above this and soooooo artistic. 20 - France - I like Bilal but this was a classic case of "trying to tick all the boxes except "provide a good song". 21 - Spain - just.... your typical Spanish "let's have a party" rambling nonsense 22 - Serbia - I struggle to remember this, tbh 23 - United Kingdom - we didn't deserve anything with this... whatever strengths his voice had were wasted on a poor arrangement and poor timing for when to bust out the big notes ![]() 24 - Belarus - completely all over the place, a mess of a song that had potential but just splashed around helplessly 25 - Germany - nothing to this song whatsoever, their voices clashed painfully and they were pretty annoying backstage as well. 26 - Slovenia - just... baffling how this did that well. Completely soulless and pallid.

Well done to Netherlands on their win.
44 years since they last did. Also Italy in 2nd. Two of the much longer Eurovision entrants taking top 2 places. Really well done. That was good to see. I personally rated Norway and Estonia. Just loved the performances with not so much overdone in the background. I'm still humming those 2 songs so would have liked thenm to do better. It was the best Eurovision for a fair while however but next year. Please presenters get on with revealing the votes. It was driving me mad the times they said Sweden needed more than 253 votes. Great show though. The atmosphere must be brilliant if you're there. Last edited by joeysteele; 19-05-2019 at 07:56 AM. |

Really amazing show last night, the standard was very high overall. My thoughts.
Norway were brilliant, they had me up and dancing ![]() Italy the sexiest performance, omg Mahmoud you are the best! Liked Netherlands, but didn't expect it to win. Iceland is one that grows on you, performance was so entertaining! So many hot men to drool over last night ![]()

malta was robbed tbh
I was rooting for Macedonia throughout the voting though. The Netherlands song was a bit dull, i'm surprised it won if im honest. When he sung it at the end without the piano and light thing, it was so anti-climatic to the whole show ![]()
