Alison King was banned from watching TV as a child.

The 'Coronation Street' star - who has appeared in several TV shows before taking the role of The Street's Carla Connor - didn't watch any shows growing up after her parents got rid of their TV set.

Alison, 34, revealed to Britain's Inside Soap magazine: "My parents threw out the TV when I was eight. They just thought there was too much sex and violence on the box."

Not having her own TV didn't stop the soap star becoming a TV sex symbol when she got older, but Alison insists she was not always beautiful.

She said: "I was an ugly child. One day I was riding my sister's bicycle and a boy shouted, 'Look, there's a monkey on a bike!' "

The battle of the soap weddings was won hands down by East Enders this week.

Local bike Stacey Slater finally wed her man (without him finding out she'd been knocking off his dad). It was classic Enders drama - and is set to get rockier after Max and Stacey were secretly taped talking about their affair. While Corrie's Jason and Sarah Lou wedding was good, it was too predictable. David Platt tried to ruin it by faking a suicide. (Shame he failed.) Apart from the excellent car-into-the-canal crash, it fell flatter than an X Factor reject.

I'm pleased to say that as a "Corrie Extra" I will be at the Granada Studios on Thursday 15th November filming scenes in the Rovers for the Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day storylines, sounds as though they will be quite exciting!!

Just discovered her last day of filming (16th), according to the Genuine Corrie extra, thats when they are filming Christmas day (or even boxing day)

LoL, that was a classic exit, I think most people leave Corrie in a cab though.

but hers was special, with the snow, the band actually playing the theme tune to Corrie outside the pub, and Christmas eve was fantastic that year

Coronation Street's Tina O'Brien says her need for a change was behind her decision to leave the top soap.

Her character, Sarah Platt, will depart for Italy over Christmas and Tina told whatsontv.co.uk at the National TV Awards that she's looking forward to new experiences.

"I've been there for eight years, and eight years in the same job is a long time for anyone... I feel like, even though I might go and do something that's not as successful, at least I'll be doing something different, for myself, so I can do things that make me feel it's a bit new."

But she's made sure she hasn't burnt her bridges - a return at some stage is on her agenda. "It's definitely something that I'd never cross off. I've really enjoyed Coronation Street. I'd be a fool to say that I wouldn't be happy to go back!"

Tina was escorted by off-screen boyfriend Ryan Thomas, who plays her on-screen partner Jason Grimshaw, and he said the couple definitely leave their break-up traumas behind when they're off set...
