Talk about life taking a 360-degree turn and Shilpa Shetty’s success story come to mind.

Three weeks on the celebrity reality show Big Brother in the UK and she’s accumulated millions apart from a whole new set of fans overseas.

So much so, that just about everyone is vying for a chance to cash in on her success.

Numerous endorsements later, the actress recently shot for the 5th anniversary issue of the magazine L’Officiel India, styled by Louis Vuitton, in the city that made her famous all over again.


How was your photo shoot?

It was fantastic! It was also convenient as I was in London at the time. Stuart Weston, the photographer, was fantastic as was the rest of the crew.

It was a foreign crew with Japanese make-up artists and hairdressers Ayumi and Teru, who were specially flown in from Paris.

The entire look of the shoot is very high fashion.

Superna Motwane, the editor of L’Officiel, was very clear about what she wanted.

I’m very fussy about hair and make-up but after working with them, I was completely at ease.

Was the shoot very different from the ones you’ve done before?

I’ve always wanted to do different things and L’Officiel boasts of very classy fashion shoots and covers.

What was different was that it was a completely international look. And, of course, with Louis Vuitton clothes, I thought it was a great combination

Is Shilpa fussy to work with?
She definitely has her preferences, but she was not a fussy person to style as she understands high fashion and is willing to experiment. We were happy about the fact that we could give her a look that was completely different from her usual one. It did take some convincing to get her to experiment with her hair and make-up, but when she took a look at the first polaroid she was very happy.

What is the mood of the shoot?
We wanted her to look like a fashion diva, not overtly sexy but sensual. Big hair, smoky eyes and clothes that are as well crafted as the LV bags. Shilpa is a beautiful blend of many things — she is down-to-earth but can suddenly transform into a stunning diva. At the same time, she proudly holds her Indian values up to the world, and that’s why she is the choice for our anniversary cover.
