You could + and - a member's karma. I didn't really understand it myself.

Just like a number in your profile at the side of the page, probably just generally showed how popular you are on the forum.

My karma was commonly in the negative numbers. Obviously.

Because if someone posts something particularly good, it might be nice for them to see lots of likes under it . Sometimes I'll see a post I like but I don't post anything myself if I don't feel I've got anything to contribute, and having a thread filled with lots of "I like your post" posts would just be really annoying for anyone trying to read the thread and scrolling through lots of nonsense.

The karma feature sounds different to a 'like' option because it wouldn't be assigned to a member, just individual posts. I can't think of any draw backs to a 'like' option, surely it would just be a positive thing for people to see next to their posts?

This idea just came to me, but would it be possible to be able to customise the smilies that appear at the side of your post to choose the ones you use to make it easier? It's probably more trouble than it's worth but just a suggestion
