I absolutely adore Alison King. She really has grown on me as an actress and a character. I know she's not everyone's cup of tea but she's not one of Corrie's stereotypical bitchy women - she's just right. Just the right amount of cow-age. And some great lines from the script writers.

I wasn't sure about the Carla-Liam storyline at the beginning but now Maria's pregnant by him and he's about to get down on bended-knee in preparation for the soap's 71st wedding, it's all getting good. But will Liam and Carla allow their feelings to get the better of them?

Just after Christmas, however, tragedy strikes following Liam and Maria's romantic weekend away. And I've heard somewhere that Liam's life is left hanging in the balance...

Elsewhere, Kevin Webster is looking at a long stretch courtesy of HM The Queen for his brutal attack on Rosie's teacher John after rumbling their affair; David (finally) settles down when he's caught up in a romance with a new love interest; while Dan and Harry Mason make their mark on the Cobble.

I'm so glad Jack Ellis is back on our screens, too. He's probably been off television for the right amount of time to be able to distance himself from his old Bad Girls character, Jim Fenner.

All in all, Corrie's shaping up pretty well at the moment. It's been the first time in a long while that I've actually sat down, watched a week's worth of episodes and said the words 'It's getting good'.

It almost makes me think that Kim Crowther's name is on the producer's office door already. I joke. Steve Frost has had his good and bad times with Corrie. But hey, that's the nature of soap. He's certainly no former EastEnders producer who'll remain unnamed, that's for sure.

In all, Steve's done a good job with Corrie but now it's time to move aside and let someone else have their time in the chair. Good luck, I say. What's the odds on Kim Crowther following in the footsteps of Diederick Santer and bringing back a (couple of) key character(s) from the past? My money's on Suranne Jones.

[spoil]Producers have warned Coronation Street stars that they must not "urinate in the open air" while they film scenes in the Lake District this week.

The ban was included on a new list of rules for the shooting of the dangerous scenes which show factory boss Liam Connor (Rob James-Collier) dropping off a 300ft cliff.

The dramatic footage will also show Liam's girlfriend, Maria Sutherland (Samia Smith), falling into a river.

As a result the cast have been told that they must always have "both hands free" to keep themselves balanced on location. Cast and crew must also make sure they do not wander off the set paths and hard hats must be worn.

A source revealed the male cast members found the no urinating rule humorous but that they will take the new rules on board. The insider said: "The rules are unprecedented but even those who joked about the no-peeing one have accepted them.

"It's just that Cumbria will be freezing - so we'll be more susceptible to calls of nature."[/spoil]

The Star today reports that, when Vera shuffles off this mortal coil next year, the blue and yellowish stone cladding that she was so proud of on her house won't be far behind. The cladding has been a familiar landmark in Coronation Street since 1989, but when Tyrone and Molly buy the house, Molly decides the whole house needs a complete makeover, outside and in.

And we may all be given a chance to own a piece of Corrie history, as the Star's Corrie insider says: “It was decided that when [Vera] goes, the cladding should go as well. There has already been one suggestion that it could be auctioned off for charity.”

On 3 December, two new characters arrive in Coronation Street, and ITV.com profiles them in its Arrivals Lounge feature. Jack Ellis and Matthew Crompton play father and son Harry and Dan Mason, who will be taking over the long-neglected bookies.' In a video interview, they discuss their new roles.

Jack says of his character, "The father is on his third divorce. He needs to hide his assets, so he buys the bookies." Matthew adds, "The son is a total failure at running a business, so he ends up working with his dad." Living with him, too, as they end up sharing a very small flat - with one bed!


Jack continues, "Harry's from Harrow, somewhere like that. He's not East End, he's a bit Estuary in terms of accent, with lower middle class/working class roots. He ended up on the fringes of the criminal fraternity in London, ended up with a bit of cash, so now he's gone legit really."

Matthew says, "Theres a Mrs Mason for Harry. Dan doesn't have a missus because he's young and he's watched his dad go through all these divroces, so he wants to stay footloose and fancy free. They'll go for the same woman, definitely - they're sharks." Uh-oh - do we sense a Jamie/Leanne/Danny love triangle type thing in the air?

Jack predicts a bit of wheeling a dealing for Harry, but he says, "Harry likes to take the long view. He's learned from his early days. There will be scams on the horizon!"

Both of them are delighted to be working on the world's favourite soap. Matthew says that, "Working on Corrie is amazing. It's a legendary show, I'm honoured to be in it." Jack adds, "I was a bit scared to start with, but I'm really loving it and they're great people. It's a good show, it's a funny show." He admits that he's had to adapt to a new way of working: "It's totally different to anything I've done before. It's interesting, it's a learning curve, but it's made so much easier by the people in it." Both of them are slightly star struck by the iconic set: "You walk in the Rovers and you think, 'Ena Sharples sat here. It's very special," Jack says, and Matthew adds, "It's quite surreal. I'm still looking around going 'Wow!'"
