I still can't get my head around this!!!
I always looked up to Rolf and thought he was a top bloke.

With Saville he always seemed arrogant and seedy but Rolf couldn't seem any less like the type!
Has he made any kind of admissions or confessions about the whole thing ?

But, yes, I imagine there are all kinds of things that go on in Hollywood that get covered up because of all the money and "power" involved.

The stuff that does come out about people in that lifestyle is creepy enough.

I am rather surprised when this topic comes up while talking to others as to how many don't seem as hostile to Rolf Harris as many have been to others found guilty.

I even got told today from some that they hope he gets spared prison,that he did wrong but he has done a lot for people.

I was quite amazed at that low key reaction to him being found guilty.

Don't believe this for a second, Rolf Harris will become the pallbearer for all of Jimmy Saviles crimes as well as his own. He will be put on a par with Savile and reviled with equal intensity.

Savile died before he could be brought to justice, the same cannot be said for Rolf Harris who will face the full fury of the Judges and will almost certainly have to face futher prosecutions here and abroad (assuming he lives that long)

And unlike Jimmy savile he will have his OBE and all other Honours withdrawn or rescinded.

He will pay "heavily" for his crimes....

It's simple aesthetics... Saville was easy to think of as a monster, because he looked like a very strange man. His public persona, also, was arrogant and essentially quite aggressive. The news broke that he was a predatory paedophile and - lets be honest - most people were far from shocked.

Harris on the other hand - the silly, gentle, cuddly Aussie koala bear - who just liked cartoons and helping poor little animals... people can't get their head around that. Some people I've talked to about it seem to have quite deep psychological defense mechanisms in place about it, still believing it to be a mistake, or at the very least believing the charges are inflated and maybe it was one or two small incidents that the poor old bloke is really, really, reeeally sorry about because he's nice. really.

I think the Russell Brand video hits the nail on the head. With Harris, this verdict is a massive blow to people's childhood innocence and their whimsical memories of better, simpler times. It casts a sinister shadow over people's happy Sunday mornings in front of the TV with a big bowl of cereal. The saville revelations didn't. Because on some level, most people ALWAYS found him ... creepy.

I've genuinely found that people ate finding it hard to accept it at all and are keen to psychologically "split" Harris into two personas - the one they knew, and the one they are being introduced to. people don't want to see the monster punished too harshly if it means the other face has to go with him.


My own honest opinion is that, assuming the charges (and further allegations) are all accurate, his charming and friendly alterego makes him something even MORE sinister than Saville. Watch footage of Saville and it's easy enough to see the arrogant, monstrous sociopath that lies within. Watch old footage of Harris and you still can't even begin to believe what he was doing after-hours.

That is almost exactly what I am finding at present Toy Soldier. as I said above I was amazed, I expected to hear the real anger and contempt for Rolf Harris that started once more and more of Saville's crimes came out as to him.

As you say it appears .for now,some people are keeping the Rolf Harris entertainer image they have intact almost and putting aside this side that he has been found guilty of.

He will of course be stripped of any honours he got and rightly so but of all the people so far charged with these crimes,I have and am still hearing of more who don't have the same direct contempt for him as for say Max clifford, Stuart Hall and of course Jimmy Saville.

That may change of course in time but for now,I would say I am finding an almost even split as to him.
I am astounded at the people who have said to me so far, they hope he somehow doesn't go to prison.
In fact in my local ASDA today, several of the checkout ladies were saying poor Rolf Harris how did he get mixed up in this.

Poor Rolf Harris, I was really stunned at that.

Indeed. Nor should they be able to. Stripping someone of titles when they are alive has an impact on them, it shames and dishonours them. Doing so after they are dead is simply rewriting history. They foolishly gave these honours to a violent paedophile and he died still holding them... still feeling honoured. That's their mistake that they now have to accept. A historical smear on their selection of honourable people. It SHOULD remain unchangeable, in hopes that they'll be more discerning in future. Because you'd have to be completely naive to think that no one involved in dishing out those titles knew that these men had dark "secrets".
