I ran a Met Office climate station for 15 years (and associated weather website) and worked for Meteo Consult for a time and i have been a member of the Climatological Observers Link for many years. I have kept a weather diary since I was 10 and am active in several weather forums. Its a lifelong interest.

"The Climatological Observers Link (COL) [1] [2] was founded in 1970 by a small group of amateur meteorologists following the exchange of correspondence in the magazine Weather - published by The Royal Meteorological Society. It is the largest enthusiasts' weather observer network within the United Kingdom."

Oh I see.

Best to go to the actual website of COL rather than wiki

COL stands for Climatological Observers Link, an organisation of people who
are interested in the weather.

Its members are mainly amateur meteorologists, but many professionals and
observers from schools, universities and research establishments also belong
to COL.

I think you're right LT it is all fearmongering. After my wikipedia search earlier, I went down a Google rabbit hole and a reputable organisation I found, the Legion of Amateur Meteorological Expertise, has completely DEBUNKED all of this climate guff.

there has been a noticeable ramping up on the climate change rhetoric, they are very much trying to scare people. The fact that people had 3 years of it with covid, they are starting to fight back strongly because they can see clearly what's going on

is anyone getting these same vibes?

Back in 1958 Mao Zedong decreed Chinese citizens must wage war upon the humble sparrow because the birds were eating much-needed grain in a country where hunger was then a constant companion.

Dutifully, people took up the challenge; shooting the birds, breaking up nests, smashing eggs and beating drums to scare the animals and prevent them landing to rest. After two years, hundreds of millions of birds were dead as the poor sparrow approached extinction across China.

But we mess with nature at our peril.

Smashing the sparrows resulted in one of the most devastating famines in recent history, killing between 15 and 40 million Chinese citizens (exact numbers remain subject to ferocious debate.)

It turned out sparrows didn’t just eat grain. They also gobbled down lots of insects, including locusts, a critter with a vastly more voracious appetite for crops. With its major predator effectively sidelined, the locust roamed rampant across China.
