This 'definitely not wuhan' **** is...nonsense. I tend to listen to the WHO tnf, but on this...nope. I am almost sure, at this stage, it was a lab mistake. Not 'unleashed on purpose' but through some kind of human error.

Am also getting a barrage of 'SAGE say UK will be in a lockdown cycle for years because of mutations' on..all over?! If thats true, just FFS. The vaccine was the way out. Yet now, years more of this crap. Ugh.

You are correct there.

The only reason infections and hospital admissions are falling, is because of the lockdown.

If that's eased too readily as it was last time, then we could see saw again into more chaos.

Yes the vaccines help as to serious illness or possible deaths.
However, the real effect even of vaccines is still at least months off knowing how strong that will be.

We’re at the point where we are going to have to live with the virus after the 50+s and vulnerable have been vaccinated... we can’t pause life forever, people have lives to live. The younger generation shouldn’t be stripped of mistakes to be made, spouses to meet, university life and so many things. People often say their best years of their life are at university.. how cruel to expect a generation of people to miss out. It might sound cruel, but once the vaccinations have hit that way I believe by summer we should drop all restrictions...

Covid is staying and people will die... the same as flu and other illnesses, you are naive if you think people should remain locker down forever to prevent deaths, it’ll be like preventing driving... it’s a sad part of life... but people do die...

(I’m not talking about now or last years peak, but I’m talking about post vaccination of the older and vulnerable..)

Katie is right here... first freedom was until Easter.. then a few weeks.. then September.. and then when the vaccines roll out... and now it’s until a top up vaccine for the nee variants... it will go on forever as the virus will keep mutating as does the flu and common cold.. people have this expectation that we can get zero covid, it’s all short term..

the media and government need to acknowledge people will die monthly from this disease and we can’t stop life. What’s the point of living if everyone is locked up forever, there is no end goal...

Germany wants to extend their lockdown until March 14th, Merkel & government is today in meeting with all region leaders regarding this

even if some region leaders are against it, they might still keep the lockdown as it is, which would mean Schools, Pubs/Bars/Restaurants, non-essential shops to remain closed

the new case numbers are decreasing a lot but they need to keep the lockdown for much longer to get all the way close to zero new cases, easing down of measures can't lead to a surge in new cases according to Merkel

We're not at that point yet, if anything we're at a crucial "wait and see" stage, however if we get a large percentage of the population vaccinated and it still isn't as low as they would like... then yes I would say, that is the point where some acceptance has to come in. Right now we're waiting and hoping that vaccination is the answer and using lockdown to hold it off until we can see if that's the case. If it is NOT the case, then we can't continue with lockdowns forever. As in... we literally can't. It's not a sustainable option.

That's not to say we just say "ah whatever" and "do our best", the NHS is still at risk of being overwhelmed, but it is the point where the focus simply has to shift to increasing NHS capacity to the point where it can cope with high case numbers, rather than keeping the service levels static and forcing case levels down to match.

I think life has to return to normal, we just can't do another winter like this again anytime soon. When the top 9 groups have had the jab we should be in a much better position, there just shouldnt be the level of extreme hospitalisation in the future

Yes we are Stuck with this China Virus forever.
Any that do not have Vaccine's (and every updated version)
could be the ones that all die.

We should Force everyone to have Vaccines
Take them in a Police Coach
Strap them in a Chair.

Then Drive them all home.
That would save our Nation.

...I was just thinking last night what the impact on world travel in the future because of any extra health/safety things and the added to travel...we don’t know what exactly will have to stay in place but also with Brexit as an added layer as well, it feels as though it’ll regress into overseas travel maybe being more for a higher income bracket...?...and if you have close family living overseas...?...travel is never going to be as simple as it has been in the time we’ve known it....

...so far as the carbon footprint, though...a large decrease in overseas travel long term is a great thing, eh....

Yes ... I’m trying not to be too negative ( my inbuilt default setting) but now with so many sick people worldwide and millions still trying to recover from it ... I’m wondering if we will now be more susceptible to any number of different Coronaviruses all requiring completely different vaccines ..

Europe's oldest person, French nun Sister Andre, has survived Covid-19 and will celebrate her 117th birthday tomorrow, her caregivers said.

Lucile Randon, who took the name of Sister Andre when she joined a Catholic charitable order in 1944, tested positive for coronavirus in her retirement home in Toulon, southern France, on 16 January.

She was isolated from other residents, but displayed no symptoms.

Asked if she was scared to have the virus, Sr Andre told France's BFM television: "No, I wasn't scared because I wasn't scared to die.

"I'm happy to be with you, but I would wish to be somewhere else - join my big brother and my grandfather and my grandmother."

David Tavella, spokesman for the Sainte Catherine Labouré retirement home, said she was doing well.

"We consider her to be cured. She is very calm and she is looking forward to celebrating her 117th birthday," he said.

Mr Tavella said Sr Andre, who is blind but very spirited, will celebrate her birthday with a smaller group of residents than usual because of coronavirus infection risk.

"She has been very lucky," he added.

Sr Andre, who was born on 11 February 1904, is the world's second-oldest living person according to the Gerontology Research Group's (GRG) World Supercentenarian Rankings List.

The oldest person is Japan's Kane Tanaka, who turned 118 on 2 January.

The world's 20 oldest people in the GRG list are all women.
