Maybe Smollet was using his bank account to rest $66,000,000 from the 2 Nigerian brothers as they could not keep it in their at this time and Smollet gets to keep the interest

I don't know if this has been discussed, but the police actually got the phone records from Smollett's supplier before he handed over the redacted version, so all they had to do was investigate the ones he deleted.

Shortly before the attack, a threatening letter was sent to Smollett at the Empire studios, which made certain media outlets start crying:


However, when Smollett's possible co-conspirator's apartment was raided, they found some torn up magazines...

So did he pay these guys to beat him up or not?

Why was he wandering around with a piece of rope round his neck?

Nothing's confirmed yet, but it seems like he paid them to help fake the hatecrime, and the rope was part of the monkeyshines.
