Did you happen to watch the rest of the programme? Where people were phoning in and saying how much it had helped them? There was a woman in her 60s who phone in and said she’d finally had the confidence to come out to people as she’d watched Phil do it on national television.

****ing right he should do it and dominate the news - why should it be something that’s hidden and done in private as if it’s something to be ashamed of? The more people with that attitude, the more homophobia exists and that is never going to change if it isn’t addressed.

Yeah this is something that he and his family clearly have gradually come to terms with privately for a while.

Why are people whinging about this making the news? I get that you don't like Schofield (I am also not a fan) but of course this is going to make the news. He's one of the most recognisable faces on TV and he's married. Whether he announced it during a live TV spectacle or quietly/privately came out and was later seen with male partners, it was obviously going to make the news.

ITA with this. It sucks for the wife but we've all been in situations where we've been betrayed by something, devastated by some bad news, etc... We've also all been in situations where WE are the betrayer, or where WE are the one delivering hurtful news to someone. I think we can all agree the latter feels far worse. When you are responsible for causing someone else hurt it burdens you with so much more guilt and pain than it does if you are the person helplessly receiving this bad news.

The point I'm trying to make is, no one is disputing it's tough on the wife BUT personally I think it's harder for Phil to have to live with the fact he is the reason for his wife's hurt.

I don't think people are showing any ignorance on this thread, what is loud and clear is that Phil's feelings are far more important than his wife's, that's the gist I am getting here. No one is suggesting he told her yesterday but he obviously didn't tell her on their wedding day

To be fair I think people are conflating a nearly 30 year partnership with a Love Island fling... I'm sure he deeply loves his wife and she loves him too, that won't be affected by whether he's attracted to men or women? We have no idea what their situation is, it may well be that it was her who first suspected after years of issues while he was in denial still and brought up the conversation? There's a huge assumption that he's suddenly rocked up home after a morning on telly and said "Sorry love I prefer dick, bye." leaving her reeling. It doesn't seem like that's the situation at all.
