I think being fat as a teenager and having the motivation to lose that weight as a young adult is a learning curve that sets you up for knowing how to manage your weight for the rest of your life; compared to people who get fat as young adults and don't have the resolve to lose it because they were always thin and now they're not.

Like even on here we have Lewis and Conor who have posted really inspirational weight loss pictures; they had weight problems as teenagers and now that they're young adults they've taken the steps to lose the weight. Compare that to someone who was naturally skinny as a teenager but a combination of drinking too much, bad eating habits and a lack of exercise has left them overweight and they've never had to battle that problem before and often don't have the motivation to do anything about it. I just know so many people (myself included) who have battled hard with their weight after years of being overweight as children/teenagers and have managed to lose all the extra weight; and so many people who went to uni, got really fat and barely leave the house anymore because they're so mortified by what they've done to their bodies.

Yeah, it's true. Thinking back to how I was, i feel so embarrassed that I know I'd never want to be like that again. I'm not perfect by any means, but I'm getting there, and I'm at a point where I feel semi-comfortable

Yeah exactly, and it does take a long time for you to get to a point where you stop being miserable about your weight and start being motivated into doing something about it. If you've spent your teenage years being miserable about it, it makes sense that becoming a young adult, a time of independence, is when you decide to do something about it. The same can't be said for when you're a young adult and you become fat, because suddenly life gets in the way and you don't have the time to go the gym that you had while you were 18-22. So many folk get sucked into a cycle of working all week, going to the pub at the weekend and then waking up aged 30 something and being appalled at their beer bellies, wine waists, fast food guts and wondering what happened. If that's all you've known as a kid, you reach the point where you want to do something about it long before those people do.
